The Evolved Euro-Style Lager. Brewed to spur the people to unite in the fight for imbibing emancipation and smash the oppressive tyranny of malt monotony! Mother Lager was a refreshing, evolved alternative to the familiar Euro-style imports, exported from the People's Republic of Vermont.

Pours a medium yellow color into a pint glass with very little head. The smell is kind of pilsner like. There is no carbonation that I can see. The initial taste is definitely pilsner like, strawlike in flavor with a mild mellow finish. I hate to say it but it kind of reminds me of a macro brew in flavor except its not as watered down. Overall I think its just an ok beer.

I bought a bottle of this off the single shelf at Giant Eagle just down the street. It poured a clear golden with thin white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had nice pilsner hints. The taste had sime saaz hop. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

This was disappointing, Nice color and aroma however it literally tastes like a domestic with a hint of lemon. Think Budweiser/Miller Lite with a lemon zest. Not my thing at least. I actually committed a beer sin on this one and dumped half the bottle, it just wasn't worth the calories.

Strange after taste. Sort of like Nag Champa incense. I wouldn't buy it again. Far cry from #9 in quality.

Taste: Crisp yet still malty smooth, bold finish. Nose is balanced. Gold, clear, with a white foam head and some lace. Medium body. A bit more flavorful than the average. 17 IBUs

Mother Lager brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.00% This Euro Pale Lager pours out a nice golden amber color with a small white head. There is also a decent amount of lacing to this brew, it sticks to the side of the glass well. The smell is rich with grains and malts. Mild on the hops in the smell. Now for the taste, it is Bold with flavors. You pick up on a mild sweetness in this brew , witch is really enjoyable. You also pick up a a nice amount of grins and malts. The hops are there but mild, not saying that is a bad thing. This is a well put together brew. This Euro Pale Lager would go nice with dinner. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a real nice balance to it. The body of Mother Lager is a solid medium. The mouth feel is Bold, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I'm giving Mother Lager a 4.25 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to. Magic Hat Brewing Company, did a real nice job with this brew. This is nice enjoyable brew.

Picked up the single for around 2 bucks into a pint glass.
Actually looks quite good somewhat hazy bright yellow color with a rocking 1/2 inch of froth that sticks around for quite a bit. Smells of a typical lager some sweet grains and hops. Ugh wow it's been a while since I had such a terrible beer. Whatever hops they used are disgusting and it almost reminds me of lawn trimmings (is that where they get the term "lawnmower beer"?)

Anyway sweet malts and a mildly skunky finish. Body is a bit heavy for the style which should drink crisp and clean almost watery.

Overall avoid this beer if you can Magic Hat is known for better beers and this one is just plain bad!

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a clear light gold color with a small white head. The aroma is mildly sweet fruit and hops. I didn't care for this beer to much.

Magic Hat Brewing Co. "Mother Lager"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, production coded but without freshness dating
$2 @ Giant, State College, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is this "Mother Lager"? The name and text and graphics on the label seem to suggest it's like a Russian lager. I certainly hope not, some of those taste like they were made by adding anti-freeze to them. On the neck label it reads "Evolved Euro-style lager". That doesn't really make me feel any better. OK, so let's see, it's a hazy deep straw gold with a kind of a green cast - that must be coming from the anti-freeze! Only kidding. I'm hoping it's unfiltered though as it's got a pretty good haze to it. At this point the finger-thick head of bright white that was there has dropped to just a thin but solid surface covering and there's only a little bit of lace rising up alongside the glass where the head once was. Well, see how it does once I start drinking it. The aroma displays more grainy malt than it does hops, and what's there is kind of generic. It's disappointing but in all honesty it really is like so many other pale Euro lagers except that it has more malt. The flavor follows and it's grainy with a moderate sweetness to it, mildly bitter, a hint lemony, and then herbal and grassy in the finish. Yeah, it's pretty right on for a Euro lager except that most of them have more bitterness, although in this case I'm happy to take less. It's medium-bodied and fairly crisp across the palate. So, overall, not a head turner, but not a bad beer. Price-wise I can't imagine that it can actually compete with most, if any, of the pale Euro lagers on the market so I'm not sure why you'd buy this. Makes a great lawnmower beer though. Oh, I almost forgot, there was some decent lacing left as I progressed through the glass, I'm about halfway through now, but it's nothing spectacular.

Mother Lager has a thick, white head, a hazy, yellow, bubbly appearance, with powdery, tan sediment, fierce bubbles, and some glass lacing. The aroma is of grassy hops, sweet cracker, and yeast. Taste is of those elements, with nice, slightly citrusy bitterness, finishing the sip. Mouthfeel is medium, and Magic Hat Mother Lager finishes crisp and easy going.

Mother Lager | Magic Hat Brewing Company. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, the head's two fingers thick head, spotty lacing, and a clear medium gold amber body.

Smells like slightly-sweet honey biscuit malts and full-bodied grains.

I taste bright and clear malts with that tiny bit'o'honey livening up what could've been yet another bland lager. Crisp and clean finish.

Medium-light mouthfeel with mild carbonation.

Overall, I'll choose to give Mother Lager | Magic Hat Brewing Company a 4.25

Very pale yellow beer that looks almost like a light lager. Taste is grainy with some kind of peppery spice. Overall I liked it and would probably buy again.
