12 oz bottle (thanks Ric).
Excellent appearance with a dark brown body and a verydurable tan head.
Aroma: too spicy and floral.
Initially too good but immediately tasted great anyway. Spicy up front but hop-tinged dark roasted grains dominate thereafter.
Feel: carbonation may be higher than ideal.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Beautiful color- almost black color with a slowly fading head. Subtle smell consisting of mostly coffee with subtle star anise. Hoppy at the tip of the tongue with the spice coffee flavor coming through at the back of the tongue. Good carbonation despite a abnormally light for a porter mouth feel. It was a little watery. Very little bitterness. A decent holiday beer that even people who don't normally like porters can appreciate.

Appearance - Pours near black with cola brown edging where light can penetrate. The head sits a finger's width and displays fair retention before giving way to a thin, broken layer of surface suds. Fair lacing around the glass with good stick.

Smell - The anise is prominent in the aroma, along with hints of cocoa and earth.

Taste - Follows the nose. Predominant anise flavor that comes across with a nice mellowness, while backing notes of cocoa and earth provide decent depth. Faint hints of roasted malt. The finish is lightly numbing and nicely balanced with the aforementioned flavors.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with fair carbonation. Smooth on the drink with a semi-dry finish.

Overall - Damn solid porter, and a unique one at that. I love that the anise isn't overpowering, but rather serves as the catalyst to let the lesser notes shine with a beautiful harmonic balance. Just a really chill, unique and completely drinkable porter. Probably the best Magic Hat brew I've had to date.

For those that do not like anise (black licorice) stay away from this beer...for me its not so bad. The beer poured an opaque dark with thin/non-existent head with no lace. The scent carries anise. The taste has anise with some earth and espresso undertones. The mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall its a decent porter.

Not a big fan of spiced beers, but this was done well. The spices were very subtle and complemented the malt/hop flavors well with out overdoing it.

Starlit brewed by Magic Hat Brewing Company, with an ABV of 5.80 % This brew pours out a dark brown color with a nice off white head. It has has the look of root beer, not say that is a bad thing. The smell is rich with sweetness and spices. You also pick up on some malts in this brew, and the anise. Starlit is a bold tasting brew with anise flavor. This brew is different from most porters on the market. There is a lot of rich flavor and smoothness. There is nothing overpowing in this brew. The mouthfeel is nice and clean. Overall I'm giving this brew a 4.5 out of 5.
I would buy this brew again.

Awesome chocolate brown with light head and lacing. Aroma is of star anise but very light. Some malt in the nose. Taste is bold with licorice, just to the max, but not too much to kill the great porter flavor. Sweet malts also present. Mouthfeel is thick and chewy and the licorice lingers for quite a while. Not bad

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is strong of anise, some coffee is present. Taste is anise, roasted malts, highly refreshing and drinkable. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, original and unique, a beer worth giving a try.

Starlit - Magic Hat Brewing Company poured from the bottle into a glass drinking boot, this brew's got a 2 finger thick tan head, sheer lacing, and a very dark brown body.

Smells like anise, obviously, along with perhaps some highly roasted

I taste a very pleasant hint of anise and vanilla I daresay. Along with those, I also detect traditional porter characteristics such as brown sugar and molasses.

This brew's mouthfeel is full, creamy, and smooth as day. Nothing chewy or lingering.

Overall a 4.25 for Starlit - Magic Hat Brewing Company. I hope this beer also gets its own six pack as the winter months descend upon Northeastern Ohio. Tonight was a very beautiful, clear fall night - and it still hit the spot nicely. Perhaps it was because I had one Hell of a day at work, in which case the effects will be at least dualy appreciated 1.5+ months from now.
