Notes / Commercial Description:
In medieval times, the celebration of darkness and light was marked with great halls filled with smoke and mirrors. Gilded goblets brimming with seasonal brews were lifted to lips speaking a language no longer known. The present connects the past through the brewer’s art and a beer of utter darkness is born - Feast of Fools Raspberry Stout. Gather thy friendly fools for a round and celebrate the oncoming darkness with sweet ale and glee.

Pours a murky Brown until you hold light to it then it has a clear red color. Have about a half inch of brown head that dissipates quickly. Not much carbonation present. The nose is raspberry dominant with a hint of light baker's chocolate. The taste is a great balance of light raspberry and chocolate. Well done on the taste. The feel is very light and thin.

L-Pours with a minimal head that quickly reduces to the thinnest of rings. Color is not quite black, looks a dark brown and a little light does transfer through the beer. This makes it appear kind of thin for a stout.
S- The smell is a that of sweet rasberry overwhelming everything else. I love rasberries, so I find this fantastic.
T- The taste is a bit of a letdown after the smell. Rasberry is there, but cut by a dark chocolate bitterness.
F-This is the big letdown for me. It is way too thin to be a stout in my book. There is a prickly carbonation which only makes it feel lighter. So light it seems to almost be a fruited porter or dark ale.
O- Despite the poor mouthfeel this brew is worth drinking. The proceeds of sales benefit the Vermont Food Bank which is admirable. Still their are better stouts out there by far.

One of my very favorite beers at christmas time. It is also the best thing I have had from Magic Hat, for sure. (Electric Peel is also quite good.) It is not a traditional stout in my book - it's missing that huge coffee note that so many stouts today have; but it really had a strong raspberry and chocolate flavor combination, without being sweet. It's nose is good, but the taste is a standout. If you're near Magic Hat at the holiday time of year, pick up quite a few. (They also age quite well - just recently tucked into a bottle I'd had for three years - the chocolate gets stronger.)

Enjoyed from the 22 oz bottle in a snifter. This stout pours a near black with brown outlines and a nice brown head of dissipating foam that forms a thick ring and light lacing. Nose of dark bread crust, raspberry jam, and dark cocoa. Flavors exceed the nose with dark breaded and raspberries that mingle nicely with a bakers chocolate flavor that fades a subtle grain note on the back. A highly quaffable brew indeed. Good carboantion is prickly and effervescent giving lively mouth feel that finishes with a touch of burnt malt. A nice fruity stout.

Cheers

22 oz poured into a goblet

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, completely opaque, pitch-black color, with an eighth of a finger of chocolate-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin halo of foam that gripped the sides of the glass.

Aroma: Strong aromas of bready, earthy, roasted malt, imparting notes of freshly toasted dark bread, and a hint of smoke. There are also lots of aromas of brown sugar and dark molasses, and raspberries. Think freshly toasted dark bread topped with raspberry jam.

Taste: Very tasty! Lots of roasted malt and brown sugar-like sweetness up front, followed by lots of semi-tart raspberries and dark chocolate. There is also a touch of licorice, and a slightly bitter finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, and extremely smooth as there is no carbonation what-so-ever. With an ABV of 6%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is a very nice, very tasty beer. Great flavors of roasted malt and brown sugar-like sweetness up front, followed by lots of semi-tart raspberries and dark chocolate. Recommended.

Plenty dark brown with a little red glint in the chalice but foam is pretty much missing. Raspberry taste is actually quite nice but mouthfeel is lacking without much of any carbonation. Pleasant fruity aroma and nicely fruity on the tongue.

Roasted malt with just a touch of the blackened grain. Finishes with the resiny feeling in the back of the throat. Hints of raisins and slightly sweet. Only a touch of bitterness and noting like a hop flavor. This is the 2014 edition, 22 oz bottle purchased at Liticker's Liquor in San Diego.

Big raspberry flavor, thin mouthfeel for a stout. Cannot pick up any classic stout flavors (chocolate, roast, coffee, dark fruits, etc). Wife and I both agreed that if tasted blind would never guess it's a stout.

I enjoyed this from the bomber in a 1/2 pint glass chilled.

The color is black opaque with thin tan head with fine bead. The smell has a fruity berry aroma with light smell of cocoa in the nose. The feel is lightly fruity with mild sweetness and very high carbonation level with subtle roast and semi-dry finish.

The taste is fruity with tangy aspect of raspberry with a light floral quality and hint of roast in the middle with a mild cocoa element in the taste with earthy almost nutty flvor in the finish. Overall this is an okay stout but the execution is not as good as the concept with okay drinkability but does not seem that impresssive

Picked this beer up on a whim. I lived in Vermont and have many Magic Hat Offerings but and have never been impressed but this is the exception.

Poured into a Left Hand Stout glass from a bomber. A/Black with little lacing on the glass. S/Raspberries followed by roasted chocolate that smelled on the sweet side. T/follows the nose. I do not detect any bitterness. Sweet chocolate covered raspberries only and it is not cloyingly sweet. O/ I am very impressed with this offering from Magic Hat. It is a perfect desert beer or for the holidays as intended. It is not a thick stout and it has some carbonation which makes it interesting. I would definitely purchase this again. If you are looking for a sweet stout but not something as sweet as Big Luscious or Creme Brûlée I would recommend looking into this. I hope to get my hands on this again.
