An enormous play in one significant act, Ravell is a porter brewed with whole vanilla beans, once available whenever young William and father John deem it so.

Pouring this porter, it pours a very dark brown/ almost black due to no light piercing through the goblet that i drink out of most frequently. I poured it at room temp, and it left a nice thick, creamy, head (about 1 inch) that dissipated to about 1/4 in. within the first minute in the glass.
As I wofted the smell of this porter to my sinuses, I got the smell of a very "sharp" malty-chocolatiness along w/ roasted almonds and some caramel and some smokiness...smelled so complex, I just had to get about 5 different wiffs to get all the complexities.
Now, I am not a huge fan of the Magic Hat beers, but I must say, when I took the first sip, "I kept trying to get out, and they just sucked me back in..." (a'la Godfather III). The taste was a nice sweet roast flavor w/ a malty chocolate overtones w/ an undertone of caramel (sweetness) up front, along w/ the roasted almonds, and an nice smokey aftertaste. The carbonation was also nice. it seems to hit ya, duck away, and hit ya again upon the swallow...this is definitely a beer to get a good mouthfeel with just to get everything "in".
Mouthfeel-wise, I wasn't as happy w/ this as I thought I could be. It is more of a medium bodied porter than a big black heavy dark malty porter, but it had decent carbonation. The nice thing was that the flavor was so nice that the lightness of it made it easier to drink more of it!!! Woo hoo...drink better beer baby!!!!
