Fat Angel, rest his soul, had a complex palate that balances the rich pleasures of malt with the crisp refreshing flavor of hops with a finish that is fresh and clean. Eminently drinkable, Fat Angel brought divergent tastes together to create a satisfyingly smooth harmony.

Pours a light clear copper, amber color with a good looking white sticky head that leaves superior side glass lace and decent retention.
Aroma: Malts (toasty) caramel, musky hops.
Taste; Crisp, with bready malts, touch of toffee, sweet caramel, maybe a little vanilla.
Drying finish.
This would be good combined with some BAR-B-Q pork, or baby back ribs.

These Magic Hat variety 12-packs keep calling my name. This offering was one I did not find to favorable...
Fat Angel into the pint glass looks great - a dark amber beer with robust highlights, good head, nice staying power, and impressive lacing down the glass. But that's about it for me. The smell was some metallic with hops, the feel was way too carbonated for my taste and the taste itself was some weird pale ale taste I can't quite tell what they blended it with. What ever it was, I did not like it. Overall, I gave it a decent grade 'cause it wasn't a wholly bad beer - certainly nowhere near macro territory, just not to my liking.

A: Pours a deep copper color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a small cap that leaves spotty lacing
S: Lots of caramel and maltiness up front with a light earthiness and herbal hops
T: Follows the nose. Mild caramel and some maltiness up front with some herbal and earthy hops. Almost woody (ringwood yeast, maybe). Finishes with some earthy and woody tones
M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation
O: A nice English pale. Nothing special, but definitely a solid drinker

MAGIC HAT FAT ANGEL 12/25/16
Poured from the 12 oz., bottle into an English nonick pint.
a; Clear copper with a two inch thick white head which receded to thin surface foam and dense lacing.
s; Mild caramel malt.
t; Follows the nose along with slight dark fruit notes and a mild hop bite.
m; Medium, good body and carbonation tingle.
o; A tasty sessionable English style pale, looks closer like a brown but not as malty as many of those. Very drinkable, went well with ham Christmas dinner. Sorry to see this has been retired, although like their DEMO Black IPA it was included in the variety twelvepack my daughter brought over for Christmas dinner.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with no date listed. Sampled on December 4, 2016. I wonder how long ago it was retired?
Attractive looking I will say. Mahogany amber color underneath a lingering cream colored head and good clarity.
The aroma brings up a caramel and toasted white bread malt character with a decent sweetness thrown in and a low to moderate grassy hop profile.
Light body.
It looks and smells good but the taste is a bit of a letdown because I pick up some sort of soapy character. But I think that is the Magic Hat house yeast that always has a weird character to it. Beyond that I also pick up a nice sweetness and a mild to moderate bitter finish.
