Very Good
Heart Of DarknessHeart Of Darkness
Notes: Our inky-black stout had a smooth, round palate with a dreamlike undercurrent of bittersweet chocolate. This dense liquid-silk summoned hope from hibernation and balanced winter's endless white snows with a rich swirl of creamy black rapture.

Part of a sampler six pack.

Very black with a nice one finger tan head that lasted the whole glass and left good lacing.

Aroma is chocolate, coffee, some roastiness, butterscotch, and a little molasses.

Flavor is very nice. The chocolate is milky, there's some nice roasty malt character with a little burnt, a little coffee, and a lightly bitter finish.

Body is pretty thick and rich, yet easy to drink, with a dry finish and smooth creamy carbonation.

A damn fine beer. I'll have to see if they have sixers of this one at my local store.

Pitch black colored beer with a slowly fading tan head. Taste starts out as chocolate and finishes as coffee. Velvety smooth it goes down like liquid silk. A very good stout in my opinion.

12oz bottle poured into glass

A: super-dark, almost black
S: definite chocolate aroma on the nose. maybe some dried fruit. smells Interesting.
T: citrus notes on the finish (grapefruit?) Some roast/char. The late bitterness good for balance.
F: heavy, with mild carbonation
O: enjoyed and would get it again.

This stout poured what appeared to be pitch black until held up to a light an then a slight redness can be detercted. The tan to brown head was not particularly creamy but was quite persistent and lingered on the side of the glass.

The roasted aroma filled my nose the moment I removed the cap and the smell lingered for some time. It reminded me of a drink from Starbucks. Rich and creamy.

This beer is on the sweet side of balanced. Just when I was about to say very sweet, the roasted bite kicks in and moves the balance of the beer toward the middle, but not quite.

The mouthfeel was not as creamy as I had hoped. It is medium bodied and does have a smoothness without being oily.

This is a beer that Malto brought down to Dallas and is a damn fine stout. I particularly like its sweetness and wish I had a couple more. Hey Malto, I will trade you a couple Texas Tornados for a few more of these!!!

Appears completely dark opaque until held up directly toward the light in order to unveil deep ruby edges around this brew with scattered lacing formed by a thin tan moccha colored head. Aroma contains deep notches of chocolate, coffee, tones along with a slightly burnt fruit tones caramelized down to a reduction. The flavors a reminscient of a dry Irish but with so much more character and flavor the deep dry roasts are present, but in addition a cocoa infused cappucino with a sour acidic tone finishes out the robust flavor of this stout similar to an Imperial but lacking body and alcohol to label it so. Flavors are there including the fruit tones mouthfeel is full but by no means chewy which adds to the drinkability of this outstanding session stout no cloying carbonation or flavor profiles here just a well made true to the style stout.

It was two dollar pint night, and I spied this on tap. Poured a nice dark color, a pretty good head. Smooth, a taint sweet, and just a hint of coffee. It went down quickly, leading me to question, is it a stout? Maybe a sub-stout, bordering on a porter. Regardless, this was an excellent beer.

A - Pours black, not heavy and leaves a dark tan 2 finger head.

S - Lots of roasted malts & bitter chocolate.

T - Roasted malts dominated followed by some coffee & chocolate.

M - Medium carbonation but the body is somewhat thin.

O - It's a little above average. I can't think of better stouts in this category.
