Magic Hat Brewing Company
Vermont, United States

Style: Fruit / Vegetable Beer

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.10%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
A beer cloaked in secrecy. An ale whose mysterious and unusual palate will swirl across your tongue and ask more questions than it answers. A sort of dry, crisp, refreshing, not-quite pale ale. #9 is really impossible to describe because there's never been anything else quite like it.

A - Nice finger head with lacing - lasts a while, 5, 10 minutes.

S - Smells fruity - maybe a little too fruity. Not too strong, just a little strange.

T - Less fruity, a little more bitter than the smell. Sweet aftertaste.

F - Some carbonation, smooth but not enticing.

O - Calls itself a "not quite pale ale," tastes like a fruit beer minus some sweetness. Pretty good, but really weird.

Pours golden, good amount of head. Sweet fruity smell translates to the taste as well, though has a bit of a macro aftertaste/finish to it. Decent enough, and a good beer to help convert someone to craft. I wouldn't actively seek it out but wouldn't turn it down if offered, either.

Pours a reddish gold color a minimum of head that fades away pretty quickly. Smells like yeast and .. some kind of sweetness, I can't really pick it out. It's not really malty. The taste is mostly clean, but with some fruity sweetness. Not much in the way of hops or bitterness. Mouthfeel is heavy and a little fizzy, but not bad at all. Overall, it's a decent beer, doesn't come on too strong, but isn't too light, either.
