Notes: Put a Little Spice In Your Life It’s time you had a beer that’s made up of more than just malted barley, hops, yeast and water. We’re entering a new era of craft beer, one where we need not be suppressed by outdated brewing standards and boring the purity laws of foreign countries. Coriander, orange peel, malted rye…Miss Bliss is all the rage of the future age! Put a little spice in your life, America, and kiss boring beer goodbye.

Presentation: "1.375 pint" bottle with a spider hanging from a web with a hop flower on the body. Very cool label and subtle as to what it is. Freshness date clearly marked.

Appearance: Clear orange amber with an awesome rocky head. As it settles, the head sticks all over the glass and keeps its consistency.

Smell: Perfumy coriander with a very clean hop aroma. Slightly sweet and nearly intoxicating as it smells so damn good.

Taste: So complex, it almost becomes an emotional experience. Creamy smooth malt, leafy bitterness with a slight dry grain feel (from the rye). A tartness follows the bitterness and is tamed by a welcomed presence of diacetyl. Hints of rind are also present and mingle with the bitterness.

Notes: Wow, this is a great beer. This was fully enjoyed by both of us and we recommend it highly as a Spring time brew.

Very smooth and light. Body is smooth with light/med carbonation. Flavor was weak in my opinion, it may be because the only other spiced beer I've had is Stone's sason which is bursting with flavors. Overall wont be picking this one up again. Not bad but nothing I would get again

I scored this during a recent foray to BAL & WASDC and I have to cop to a modicum of amusement regarding the label. No need to be crude, but it does seem to depict the human female anatomy with the star marking the (ahem!) spot.

From the bottle: "Pour a Little Spice in Your Life"; "A Performance in Every Bottle"; "The ancient ritual of brewing a distinctly rich and flavorful beer is a performance to behold. Our mysterious melange of time-honored ingredients harmonize with chaotic chemistry, humble patience, and blind faith to create unique beers to share in the rousing company of kindred spirits. Cheers!"

I Pop!ped the cap and took a look to see my fortune: "Wash your Feet before you Greet". Hmm. An aggro pour seemed to be in order as a response. I was a tad heavy-handed and I got some foaming overflow as a result, but it settled into three fingers of rocky, eggshell-white head with good retention, leaving great lacing in its wake as it fell. Color was a deep Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity. This of course called forth the Gelt Gang of Midas, Mammon & Croesus, all clamoring for a taste. This gave me an opportunity to take a short break. Nose had an interesting spiciness with notes of vanilla. Mouthfeel was sort of thin, not exactly watery, but not much beyond it, either. The taste was very mellow almost tea-like, but it was also rather bland. I just felt like if they were going to advertise using coriander, orange peel and malted rye that it should be more flavorful. Finish was slightly sweet but I would have been hard-pressed to identify any of its ingredients. A swing & a miss!

Tastes like a floral ESB. The coriander stands out, but the rye pops for a clean malt taste. Toasty aroma and a balanced finish. Very sessionable and a hint of citrus. I bet this would be great on cask.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep gold color with a short off-white head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains mild floral hops, some spices, some fruit and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with sweet flavors of caramel, citrus and other fruits. Then some mild spice flavors follow. The hops presence is mild but complementary. The malt character is hearty and brings a decent balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: A little tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, this is a solid beer worth drinking for a while.

Pours a golden color with good clarity, white head and not much lacing. Aroma is citrusy, floral, a touch spicy and peppery. The taste follows suit with a nicely citrus, lemony, slightly bitter, almost bittersweet beer. Drinks easily and effortlessly, such is the M.O. for Magic Hat Brewing. This is a nice one off beer, cool label, and the kind of beer that keep younger craft drinkers involved with the scene. Lemon tea and herb oil come to mind when drinking this beer, and there is a hint of wheat and some drying spice off in the distance. Medium to light bodied and coats the palate. A rather nice and intriguing beer that is a nice little try for a cheap price point.

From the 2015 batch. Sampled in August 26, 2015.

The pour is orange-amber in color with a modest, short-lived cream colored head.

A good herbal and spicy character on the nose with coriander and orange peel leading the way. But I also picked up a kind of soapy note.

Medium body.

Good spicy coriander and orange zest flavors ending with a mild to moderate bitterness.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 7/15/2015. Pours crystal clear bright orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of lemon, coriander, orange peel, toasted bread, lightly spicy rye, light caramel, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of spices, bready malt, and light earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, coriander, orange peel, toasted bread, lightly spicy rye, light caramel, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, coriander, orange peel, toasted bread, lightly spicy rye, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Very nice balance and robustness of spices, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness after the finish as well. Medium carbonation and light-medium bodied; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is a very nice spiced rye ale style. All around good robustness and balance of spices, bready malt, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth, crisp, and clean to drink. There was a very mild amount of yeasty earthiness, possibly from an English strain, but was very well restrained overall. A very enjoyable offering.

A: Pours a golden orange color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a very thin cap

S: Coriander and orange peel up front, along with some spicy rye and general fruitiness. Smells a little like potpourri in beer form

T: Follows the nose. Coriander and some sweet orange peel up front, followed by a very mellow rye note and more of the general fruitiness. Finishes with lingering rye spiciness

M: Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: Quite refreshing, with a surprisingly controlled spice level. Still a bit bland, though. Nice if you want something different but not TOO different. Probably wouldn't buy a stand-alone 6-pack, but the 3 in the mix-pack are good enough for me
