Notes / Commercial Description:
Lucky Kat purrs as he pours with a grin on his mangy face and a grin in his searching eye. He sits on the fence he calls home, dividing up from down. Is he an imperial beast or a pale soul from the east? Only he knows and we know only this: if you reach out to pet him he'll bite back with a big, hoppy kiss.

Copper colored, good head that stayed a while. Great lacing all the way down.
Smell was good. I smelled hops, obviously, and a bit of the malt.
Taste was really good. It's an IPA, so there's a strong hop bite, but it quickly fades into a really nice caramel malt flavor before finshing with a bitter hop kick. It's a lot different from their seasonal IPA, Hi.P.A., which was more in line with a classic IPA: lot's of citrusy and piney hops.
Mouthfeel was great. The hops dance on the tongue, then that caramel flavor smoothly rides to the back, before the final hop kick. It was nice and unlike most other IPA's that I've had.
I could drink a few of these on a crisp, spring day (like today!). Might be a bit heavy in the summer, though.

Under the cap reads "Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal". Did they save the cap for me or what? So the website say "Irresistible Pale Ale" yet the label reads "an IPA". We'll tag it as an IPA for now. Clear and bright copper color, a solid head forms from a sturdy pour. Light tangerine hop aroma from the Amarillo hops and a little herbal from the Crystal, clean toasted grain and a mild buttery note in the back of the nose. That trademark Magic Hat smoothness is there, the biscuity and caramel malt tone battles it out with the hop bitterness. A stale mate as both walk away in a balance manner. Maltiness takes the low road and cover the palate with a caramel sweetness an bread crust biscuity tone. The hops take the high road with more flavor than bitterness yet there is a spicy prickly character upfront. Finish semi-sweet with a pinch of linger hop.
If this is Fat Angel's replacement than it a damn good choice. As far as the whole confusion of Pale Ale or IPA. One brewer's IPA is another brewer's Pale Ale. Either way, welcome to the beer world Lucky Kat, I am sure you'll find many friends.

Clear, copper color. Moderate lace left on the glass
This has the muddy hoppy smell of a British style bitter. Not nearly as floral as the typical American style.
The flavor follows the smell. Lots of earthy malt here. The hop bite is lighter than most IPA's. Really resembles the Brit's Bitter in taste as well. Good body for the style. The aftertaste is a mild bitterness with the remnants of the dirty, dry malt.

I picked this up at Quick six west. Poured at cellar temp into my session ale glass. The cap says "embrace alternative methods at this time"
A - Deep copper and ruddy brown hues w/ a lid that emerges from the top of the Dupont glass w/ 3 fingers of proud puffy cream w/ an ultra fine bead. There is a slight haze from the hops in the ale.
S - A nice floral hop scent w/ accents of woody hops w/ light pine and toasted malt + perhaps a dash of citrus under the biscuit in the aroma
M - Moderately carbonated w/ med body, mild bitterness for the style w/ a light sweet and dry malt texture. The feel is more astringent as it warms w/ an echo of bitterness in the mostly clean ale finish
T - A bit of sweet pale malt w/ a touch of bitter fruit and woody sappy hops w/ toasted malt as in the aroma. A gentle grapefruit nuance is noted as the ale warms. There is sweetness, but also a tart fruit(mango?) flavor that goes with it and the hops are more bitter as the beer is held in the mouth and they also seem spicier.
D - A very nice IPA w/ some balance. For me this Kat is Lucky and I hope to taste more since it was great on tap ( at Philly craft beer fest) and in the bottle

12oz bottle poured into pint glass. One of the offerings in the Magic Hat IPA sampler pack. Pours an amber color that is initially hazy but clears up quickly. Slight head. Lacing is a bit lacking in its resilience. Sweet accent in the scent. Light bodied feel. The malt backbone stands up and compliments the hop bitterness from beginning to end, but only the bitterness sticks around in the aftertaste. Not a disappointing IPA, but also not unique, memorable or a standout. (8.0)

Nice to see some new Magic Hat stuff here in NC.Poured into a standard pint glass a clear copper color with a very well defined frothy one finger white head that left a full ring of lace as it settled slowly.Aromas were a mix of caramel/bicuit malt and leafy hop, rather balanced for an IPA.Flavors had somewhat of an "English" IPA tone to them, bis firm lightly sweet malt base, finishing leafy with some citrus notes.Eh its not the type of IPA I usually jump at but its pretty good, its definently teetering on the pale ale style.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass producing a modest head of about about 1, maybe two fingers or so. Foam was a dense light brown affair that stayed around for most of the experience, eventually reducing to a thick ring of bubbles. Good lacing all the way down the glass.
Malt and hops both prevalent on the nose at first, with more sweet malty aroma than you might expect from an IPA. Hop notes are a little more on the earthy side.
Solid taste. Malts catch hold first as it rolls over the tongue but the hops come on pretty quickly and almost balance out. The hops have more of a flavor than a bite, making this an easy one to put back. Linger is more malt up front, almost a little watery, with modest hop linger. I normally get more of a bitter linger from most IPAs but this was a bit mellow.
Mouthfeel was great, really solid but smooth and just the right amount of carbonation. The whole experience was really good and I would probably recommend it to friends that are dabbling with IPAs. If you are looking for a "resin dripping from the hop cone" bite, this one may not be what you are looking for, but it's still very enjoyable.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz. bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: It has a deep amber or copper color with very good clarity. The head builds up tall and fluffy. Its head is just off white in color and leaves cool rings of lacing on the glass.
Smell: There is a big fruity hop aroma with some hints of citrus and pine.
Taste/Mouth feel: It starts with a doughy, sort of earthy malt with some mild sweetness and light caramel notes. Hop flavor slowly takes over with fruity, citrus and mild pine notes. Its hop flavor is very big and juicy yet bitterness is more modest making it very easy and fun to drink. The finish is semi-dry with a nice bitter fade. Its medium bodied with average carbonation and a slick easy drinking texture.
Notes: Wonderful flavor with judicious hoping and balance.

To put it up front: I was not impressed. I am a fan of Magic Hat beers but this is not one of my favorites.
It has a dark copper appearance and a nice full head, both of which are appetizing. The taste leaves much to be desired. It was a bit flowery at first with a metallic flavor followed by slight hoppiness. I am curious what hops they use and how much at the end of a batch. Most IPAs end on a strong but pleasant bitterness. In the end, I was expecting a bit more lasting flavor.

12 ounce bottle, drink before end of....info notched onto the rear label...pours darker honey amber, near clear, light tan head, typical lightish lacing. Minor grainy hop nose. Easy drinking and likely crowd pleasing. But with its minor hop bite, this one feels unsatisfying and middle of the road in approach, ultimately quite forgettable.

magic hat is one of the more accessible Vermont brews in the Hartford and Philadelphia counties. naturally i've had most of them but batches aside, lucky cat continues to be one of my favorites. reviewed on tap, poured a light amber with a thick tan head and mild lacing- head severely dampers after a minute. can pick up the floral hops in smell. this can be tasted at the beginning with a hint of fruit, finishes bitter but more dry than expected. well carbonated with a lighter body for an IPA and almost creamy taste. great balance and drinkability, especially for an IPA. definately one of magic hat's best currently available brews.

Sampled as part of the Magic Hat Winter mixed pack. Pours a dark orangish-amber color. The smell is very hoppy, but I am getting more of an earthy hop aroma than a citrusy aroma. The taste is hoppy, with some pine and citrus as well as some biscuit malt. This is a very drinkable IPA, but it lacks something in the taste that keeps it from being a top-shelf IPA.

Lovely grapefruit-hops flavors dominate, as is typical of an IPA, though I do detect some fruity undertones--peach, maybe apricot--that are a surprising but welcome addition, and set this brew apart from its peers. Much like the Cheshire Cat-like logo that grins at you from the label, then, this IPA isn't quite what it seems. Unlike the Cat, however, this Kat doesn't disappear just when you're getting into the role. Purists may scoff at the fruitiness and sugars present in here, but I think it's a marvelous beverage.

Honey-apricot colored with a an eggshell white wispy head that rises up strong and recedes quickly leaving fat fingers of lacing.
Inviting aroma of sweet and pithy citrus and cinnamony malt.
Flavors of mild citrus hops and honey, slightly piney, understated yeast. Not sure if it's the usual ringwood, if so, it doesn't burst through like other MH beers. Bits of toffee and butterscotch.
Dry mouthfeel, semi-full, crisp and slightly tingly.
Good session beer, pleasantly hoppy, not too overdone. Even the MH website isn't sure if this is an IPA or fat pale ale.

This particular bottle cap read...steal this cap! Firkin witty bastards up at Magic Hat, hey guys another IPA alongside HiPA, cool you're not as lazy and unproductive as your caps would entail. Pours into my pint with some meringue head building layers of light khaki killer fine bubbled creaminess that leaves behind even scattered lacing. Aroma flows efficiently with bursts of citrus peel numbing the palate with a great orange quality in the nose that follows with herbal spicy qualities that include lemongrass with mild sweet biscuit and bread ridden malt tones. Sharply sweet malt and citrus fruit combo with earthy and grassy tobacco combinations becomes more and more freakish. I love a big juicy hopped up alpha acid infused IPA with some balance but these malt and hops are way to involved in a menagerie. An IPA should always let thee know who the victor is in the competition of malt versus hop, in this case it's either one of those split decisions or draws that nobody can stomach, especially after paying an additional fifty bones for some pay-per-view. Even a TKO would suffice but this one doesn't knockout or do anything extremely technical in my imbibing experience, a solid English/American IPA hybrid much like the vehicles driven around Vermont. Go for it and catch a ride in this cost effective fuel efficient house broken beast, thank god there's enough malt and oily lubrication from the hops to equate to a healthy mouthfeel. Drinkability is pretty effortless continue to go forth and drink mind numbingly marketed craft beers with character even if the grateful dead and other rock legends must be bastardized...God Bless America and Magic Hat too!

12 oz. bottle with a 2017 bottled on date stamp.
A - It pours with a light copper body that has a slight haze. Decent white head that leaves some patchy lacing.
Aroma: fruity hops
Flavor - mild with, perhaps, low bitterness for style but hop forward.
Mouthfeel - Medium body with good. soft, medium carbonation.
Overall: a mild but modestly distinct and interesting IPA that leans towards both an amber ale and a pale ale.

Picked this up as a single at Green's on Ponce in Atlanta.
Pours a murky copper color with a one-finger light tan head. The head dissipates into a patchy layer on top leaving light lacing.
Smells of light citrus hops with a good deal of robust sweet malts. It almost has an aroma of gummy bears.
Tastes similar to how it smells. Very lightly toasted malt flavors are joined by citrus and mild pine malt flavors midway through the sip. The ending is mildly bitter.
Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.
Drinkability is good. I finished the bottle without a problem, though I'm not terribly excited about another.
Overall this isn't a bad IPA but there are a litany of them I'd put in front if it.

(Served in an American pint glass)
A- This beer has an apricot colored body with a slight hazy and a good carbonation of bubbles. The yellowish-tan head is made up mostly of big bubbles and then fades to a thin film.
S- The soft notes of dried fruit have a slight sweetness to them that blends into a green pine hops. The smell is pretty clean even after it warms a bit.
T- This beer has a soft biscuit malt flavor with a slight sweetness of apricots behind it. There is a caramel malt flavor that comes through when it warms and a full green pine hop bitterness at the finish. The bitterness lingers a bit after each sip.
M- This beer has a meidum-full mouthfeel with a slightly creamy texture.
D- This beer is a nice session beer with a unique twist to the hops by complimenting it with some fruit. The creamy texture really gave it that cask feel which was nice.

A: Pours a deep amber. Decent head with some retention and lacing.
S: Not a ton of aroma. Some citrus and maybe grassy notes. There's a big metallic aroma, too.
T/M: Bitterness is pretty weak. Not much of the American hop profile going on. Very English in style, grassy, herbal, musty. Malts are light and grainy and balanced a bit much. body is medium and a bit overcarbonated. Still, a metallic taste.
D: has that Magic Hat flavor to it.
