Notes / Commercial Description:
Lucky Kat purrs as he pours with a grin on his mangy face and a grin in his searching eye. He sits on the fence he calls home, dividing up from down. Is he an imperial beast or a pale soul from the east? Only he knows and we know only this: if you reach out to pet him he'll bite back with a big, hoppy kiss.

Magic Hat calls this an Amber IPA, and that certainly rings true visually. In fact, it looks a lot like a marzen: deep orangey-amber with a light khaki head that leaves some lacing. There's a bit of haziness, but it's pretty well-filtered. Big and malty on the nose (again, marzen-y), although there is definitely some hop spice there, too. The taste is definitely American-hop forward, though not aggressively so. There is a touch of rounded sweetness that comes from a balanced malt bill. The hoppiness is what stays with you, though. Not super-carbonated, with an average mouthfeel; those attributes, combined with the not-overwhelming nature of the hops, make this a beer you could session without issue.

A very mild IPA, almost not an IPA...

I've had quite a few Magic Hat offerings, but this one touted as an IPA was very mild, not so bitter, that I had to go back to the bottle to make sure. Decent dark caramel coloration, nice lacing, there's a light hoppy scent to the nose, and the carbonation is light (like I like it.) This might be the "lightest" IPA I've ever had, quite a different (and welcomed) experience.

I don't have a lot to say about this one.
It's a competent IPA, tastes pretty solid. Not overwhelmingly hoppy, smells great. Good intro to IPA I'd say.
It pours really pretty though!
Give it a shot.

4 magic hat ipa’s side by side. 1 Electric Peel, 2 Encore (odd notion, wheat), 3 Lucky Kat, 4 HIPA. Flatened quickly. Tastes a bit watery compared to others. Faint ash in aftertaste drops this a bit. Not great."
