Served in a pint glass, poured from a 12 oz. bottle.

A - crystal clear light amber with a thin, soapy head. Dissipates quick and leaves little lacing

S - The first time I smelled it, I got the distinct odor of horse manure. But further olfactory investigation yielded a spicy, skunky hop aroma. Still not great, but bearable.

T - Tastes like it was brewed with vegetables. The poppy is a tad kicky and the agave is apparent, but there's no definite direction to the beer's taste.

M - Watery body, slightly fizzy. Meh.

D - The ABV is low enough and the body is light enough, but the finish is unpleasantly bitter, which made this far less drinkable. Sure, i could finish this one, but I would not want more.

Overall - I'm not sold on it. But alas, it was trying something new. It didn't exactly work, but it was a unique idea, and could potentially be a better beer with more tinkering.

Taste: crisp, herbal, big grassy floral hops. Sweet complex, herbal nose. Gold/amber hue, clear, delicate lace to head. Medium/full body. Agave may smooth out beer. Had this in fall of 2016.

A: Pours a golden color with 2 fingers of head that fades down to a thin cap

S: Quite a bit of agave sweetness up front with some floral notes and maltiness

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the agave sweetness and some floral notes and then goes into a light maltiness and some nutty notes from the poppy seeds. Finishes with a very light bitterness and lingering agave notes

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: An easy-drinking and fairly straight-forward brew with a focus on the agave and some poppy influence. Quite easy to drink, but nothing memorable, especially for a pale ale

poured from the bottle into a pint glass

A - Pours a medium gold with plenty of tiny bubbles streaming to a two finger, slightly off-white head. Head is gone halfway down the glass, leaves behind marginal lacing.

S - Familiar pilsner malt smell with unfamiliar agave. Interesting - certainly not bad.

T - Pilsner malt upfront. The body is standard pils with a hint of poppy seed flavors while agave plays an slight unusual, sour dance in the background. Malty finish that fades to a noble-hop aftertaste.

M - Between medium and light bodied with moderate carbonation.

Yes, this beer is two years old, but it doesn't seem any worse for the wear. Hell, it's been all over the country with me and I figured tonight was a good night to finally review it. Basically it seems like a pretty standard pilsner with a few oddities thrown in. A far cry from bad, but something a certainly don't regret not being in existence any more.

From BeerAdvocate Magazine Volume III, Issue II:

Nice! Magic Hat pulled out their supreme extremeness for this one. A Golden Ale with added poppy seeds and agave.

Good white froth to start off with, though it dissipates to a thin lacing. Clear and bright pale golden, a typical lighter color for the spring season. Fruity and nutty aroma with some mildly sweet maltiness in the back. Moderate-sized body is a little chewy and smooth. Nutty and bitter at first, maltiness comes in with a sweet biscuit flavor almost like homemade shortbread. The agave leaves an odd trace of sweetness, and the poppy keeps it nutty along with the malt. Finishes semisweet with a long linger of bitterness.

We really dig this beer--it's a trip, and something we'd love to come back to. Proof again that extreme beer is not just about high levels of alcohol and bitterness that ruins your taste buds. A slice of peaceful beer revolution in a bottle.
