Wacko is the liquid song of summer: Crisp like the morning, cool like the evening and quenching all day long. Pop the top and set your summer loose. Wacko is a delicious summer beer with a big malty aroma, a subdued hop bite and a clean, slightly sweet finish.

This beer is bright red in color, which is concerning off the bat. It is colored with beets and you can certainly taste the sugar right off the bat and it follows through the whole beer experience, which is a bit much even for someone who likes a sweeter beer. First taste impression is sweet, followed a feel of having a sugary drink in your mouth and then leaves you with an aftertaste of sugar. Had it both in bottles and on tap. On tap was at least a bit better as it seemed to balance the sweetness a little more throughout but still was a bit much. Would be good to those who like a super sweet summer beer.

Poured from bottle. When I was a wee lad, I used to have to accompany my grandmother to the hair salon for her monthly permanent -- the process of which created a fetid stench. This beer smells like a permanent. The color is a vibrant but strange pinkish-orange. It tastes bitter -- but not a good hops bitter, more like a bad medicine bitter, and has little to no carbonation. The aftertaste is worse than the taste, if that’s possible. I don’t know what, exactly, Magic Hat was smoking when they put this one together, but I think it might have been a combination of skunkweed, jimson weed, and bad psilocybin.

Appearance: Clear pale orange in color, with a small, dense white head, which retains well. Finely-beaded lacing adorns the glass walls. The carbonation is modest and slow-rising.
Aroma: Malty, sweet aroma, with some sweet fruity notes.
Taste: Opens with solid malt flavors, sweet, almost artificial fruit notes appear, somewhat reminiscent of breakfast cereal of long-ago childhood. A bit of late bitterness clears out the fruit flavors.
Mouth feel: Fairly soft, with a slight sting of carbonation.
Drinkability/notes: Its OK. Nothing really moves me, maybe because its not summer, or perhaps because endless summer slacking just doesn't resonate right now. But, its alright.
Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long neck bottle, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
