Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #44 (Sep 2010):

Going Belgian with the taste of green apples. Yellow haze with a sufficient beery lace on top. Spicing of orange peel and coriander, with some candy-like tart apple aroma. Slick light body with some crispness. Odd apple flavor, a bit muted but tastes like candy. Spicing is there, though a musty yeast tone dulls it. Dried grass maltiness does little to hold the beer together. Finish falls flat with a lingering yeast and bitterness from the coriander. A bit of a gimmick beer for the fall, they should have gone all the way and come up with a caramel apple beer; this sadly ends mediocre.

Not bad at all and one of the more creative fall offerings I've had thus far. Appears a slightly hazed pale blonde body with a thin white head leaving behind scattered lacing around the sides of my glass. Aromas has some green apple notes with coriander and other spices, flavor is nice not overly sweet with the green apple flavor it comes together nicely a spicy wit with a green apple finish, somebody said it's like apple pie and I have a hard time disagreeing. Light bodied sturdy carbonation works for this bastardized witbier but I actually enjoyed the three bottles I had a good bit.

This pours a slightly opaque but very clear dull yellow body. Sort of like a dark soft bud.

Nose is very present with a strong yeast and green apple smell. Lots of Belgian type fresh malt and spice touches as well.

Taste is light bodied with a nice bold carbonation. Taste is really dominated by a big fresh cut grain or malt and a big apple taste. Not totally a cidery taste, very much a big malt base with lots of green apple flavor. It actually works really well in the taste. There's a nice bitter backbone and some mild earth hop flavors that compliment the sour apple flavor. This beer really runs a fine line betweem cider and Belgian funky golden ale. Really a great beer.

Poured a cloudy light-straw color with a white frothy head.
A slight hint of a nose.
A short lived head fluffy head.

The flavor profile is that of a witbeer with hints of sour apples, orange peel, wheat and yeast.

To my taster this beer is light- I put it in my "refresher beer" category-- the one where I put beers in the refrigerator and drink 'em ice cold to quell a raging summer-time thirst. Rather than the beer where one revels in its complexities and what it does to one's taste buds.

It did have a lasting finish.

It's relatively low ABV made for good drinkability. I wish I had more than one bottle.

Pours a hazy golden color with a wispy white head that leaves nice lacing. The aroma has green apple rind and cotton candy notes upfront, along with some hay and wheat, fruity esters, a little soap, and some alcohol. The flavor also starts out with some green apple jolly rancher notes, along with hay and wheat, cotton candy sweetness, fruity esters, white pepper and citrus peel and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is appropriately light and drinkability is decent. An OK wit, the apple is a little fake tasting though.

A: Poured a hazy golden color with a thin white head.

S: Honey, banana, wheat, citrus, toasted grains and a touch of apricot and green apple.

T: Citrus, banana, apricot, green apple, wheat, lightly toasted grains and fresh grains.

M: Light body, crisp carbonation and slightly watery.

D: This is a flavorful beer with an interesting twist. It is refreshing and well made with no off flavors. It is refreshing and it has a tartness that does get to be tough to get past after a few of these in a row so it is not a great session beer.

Only a slight haze to the banan peel yellow color. Good bubbling and only a thin ring of foam from pour to finish.

The aroma is rowning green apple skins and adjuncty wheat banana bread.

The taste starts with a little musty wheat. The middle has some dry banana meat and a little Granny Smith apple tart. The finish has the mlats evaporating and the apple flavors slowly lingering away.

The palate is well carbonated, but musty and adjuncty tasting. The palate feels ok, but the flavors bring down the drinkability of this beer.

Very believably green apple-infused, as the typically "white" cloudy look of a witbier is here, but it has a interesting cloudly lime-juice tint to it...it's extremely faint, and maybe it's my imagination (or the smell, which is totally green apple), but that's how I see it. Head is a super-fluffy, creamy, long-lasting thing.

Aroma definitely sports some green apple character, along with bready, flowery and herbal elements. Sugar cookie dough, as well. But damn, that green apple is strong--not in an unpleasant way, but you can smell green apple several feet away from the glass.

Flavor is cereal grains, white bread, wildflower, a crisp snap from the hops, and green apple. The green apple is 100% natural tasting, no plastic-y artificiality going on, and that's key here. Lightly doughy (sugar cookie, or sourdough), especially on the finish and with warming. It's not all that complex or anything, but I found it enjoyable with no real pitfalls.

Crisp, zippy, tingly carbonation, but a nice enough roundness to smooth everything out.

A good, enjoyable brew. They should have made this a summer beer, seems a little late-coming just as the temperatures are slowly starting to decrease and the first leaves are turning...but hey, grab it while you can, as it's one of Magic Hat's better Odd Notion offerings as of late.

Pale yellow in color with a fluffy white head. Looks like a witbeir.
Smells like a greenapple scented candle. Not usually my thing but I like it.
Taste like Green Apple candy but the beer keeps enough of the wit characteristics to keep it respectable. Bananna, corander ect...
Thin mouthfeel, easy to drink.
This usually isn't my thing but when the glass was empty I thought to myself. I liked that. I enjoyed that beer and I usually hate fruit beers so that's a testament into itself.

Pours a pale clear yellow with a medium sized persistent head. Smell has a huge green apple note at first but this seems to become much less pronounced as you drink. Pleasant wheaty flavor. Apples but certainly not overwhelming. Some yeastiness. Light bodied and could maybe stand a some more carbonation. Easily drinkable. Overall a solid Odd Notion experiment and a nice lighter beer for fall too.

A= light yellow, no head.

S= pineapple, light malts, minimal hops.

T= pineapple, okay that's what I thought when I first started the bottle and then pulled up the beer on here and see that it is entitled "Green Apple." Fine. It tastes and smells better as "Pineapple." Others here agree. Okay, so now I can see the intended "green apple" attempt in the taste and I'm less impressed. Too many chemicals, additives, something going on here in order to achieve the facade' of being a tart green apple. Better as an acidic Pineapple in our opinions. Dry, somewhat astringent, chemically tart. An interesting attempt at creativity by Magic Hat but a bit off.

M= dry, tart, slightly annoying, slightly watery.

D= I will give away the other 2 bottles in my Night of the Living whatever 12-pack seasonal.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short white head that fades slowly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains apples, bananas, Belgian yeast, spices, light malts and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of apples, spices and bananas followed by bready flavors of wheat, Belgian yeast and a thin malt character. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, light-to-medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

D: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is decent beer worth drinking for a while.

In a pint glass the beer was a pale yellow color with a thin white head.
Tart apple and sweet malt aroma. A little spice. Fairly subtle aroma.
It tasted like an apple pie: apples, spice, and crust. Again, the taste was pretty subtle and understated.
Not much either way in mouthfeel. This might be a nice, thirst-quenching, summer beer.

Pours a hazy yellow with a thin white head. The smell of apples is obvious and immediate, a nice balance of yeast and apple/sweet notes come through. The flavor has a heavy yeast/witbier flavor, with a sweet undertone, and a nice apple finish with a apple aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing, a good balance, and a lot of flavor. This is an easy drinker, the flavors are great.

I will admit to a major prejudice against Magic Hat. I have avoided their brews ever since I had something of their call Circus Boy - vile stuff. But I like a bargain, and they had a cool looking sampler box (skeletons on it) on sale, so I guess it's time to give them a fair shake. I didn't see Circus Boy pi** in the box.

So this was the first to get a taste, and I didn't know what it was until I popped it, and immediately a very pleasant aroma came out. The taste is very mild, but nice wheat taste. Whatever fruit is in there is in very tasteful proportions - it could be stronger. In fact, if everything were stronger all around I would like it.

It does not have any of the funky creaminess I associated with this brewery, so maybe that was just my imagination. Good beer.

A - Poured out a clear, golden yellow color with a one-finger white head of foam. It was a short lived haed that left little lacing.

S - It smelled of green apple - fake green apple like a candy

T - Green apple Jolly Rancher. That's it. No wit taste, no yeast, no spice.

M - It was crisp and sharp. Light bodied like a good wit should be.

D - It's a fun novelty beer but not worht having more than one.

A - small white head on a slightly hazy golden body. Settles quickly and leaves little lace.

S - strong, artificial green apple aroma. Some light herbal hops in the backgroundand a touch of wheat, but little else.

T - light green apple candy flavor up front with some wheat and musty hops. Finishes with light toast and tangy wheat as well as some light herbal hop character.

M - light body moderate carbonation and as slightly sweet finish.

D - well, this beer certainly succeeds in tasting like green apple but not in any other ways. It smells distinctly like jolly rancher candy and I have a hard time believing that it is "natural" flavor as the label claims. It seems like thay made an even less pleasant version of #9 and decided to get rid of it as a seasonal. Not recommended.

From a sampler pack purchased and consumed Sep 2010.

A cloudy pale straw color, with a nice head.

The aroma is a light mix of fruit and spices, but on top of that is a definite scent of rancid apple juice. It's not especially strong, but it's there, and once you identify it, there's no escaping it.

The taste echoes the smell, hints of spices, watermelon, and that rancid / fermented apple juice flavor.

At first, it's a beer that just tastes off. Then you realize you know that flavor, you'd tasted it before in a forgotten bottle of apple juice that went rancid. Then you realize that the beer smells and tastes of rancid apple juice, and you can't drink it anymore.

Pours a solid golden color that is just a shade darker than cider with a thinnish bone white head that dissipates quickly. Smells of apples and wheat and maybe a hint of sweet malt in there as well. Taste is sweet malt and apple up front with a bit of spicy wheat coming through mid way. A fairly dry almost cider like finish with a lingering spicy wheat flavor on my tongue. Light to medium light body, medium level of carbonation. A previous review said this reminded him of green apple jolly rancher, I couldn't agree more, the flavor is spot on. Not a bad experiment from magic hat, and no beets were harmed in the making of this brew :)

The newest Odd Notion sounds like an interesting one yet. Green apple, coriander and orange peel mentioned in the description.

Color is a whitish-blond with a thin white head. At least they nailed the color without a problem.

Aroma is full of green apple (seems a bit artificial), coriander and a faint hint of orange peel.

Taste has only a slight hint left of green apple, followed by coriander, a slight hint of orange peel and wheat. Green apple seems more like a novelty.

Mouthfeel is full of the usual wit goodness and at least they nailed this part as well.

It works as a decent but average witbier but fails when they think that green apple would be a good flavor/aroma.

A- Pours a very light hazy yellow color with a good sized white head. Head has pretty good retention and leaves a bit of lacing.

S- Smells like a green apple candy and its terrible.

T- Tastes like a liquid jolly rancher. I first thought I was crazy then the wife and other BA's reassured me that this is what I'm tasting.

M- Very light in body and high in carbonation.

D- Wow a drain pour for me on this one. Never again.
