Ticket To Rye IPATicket To Rye IPA
Notes: Ticket to Rye is a Rye IPA that offers the imbiber an opening act of rye spice, nicely woven into a hearty, bitter backup from an entire band of Nugget hops. The harmony created by these ingredients is just what any epic show calls for.

12 oz bottle from IPA mix pack (thanks BH).

Pour is lightly hazy, deep reddish-brown in color, and covered with a large and very durable tan head. The glass remains coated with sticky lacing long after the beer is gone.

Smells as expected -- like rye + IPA -- but with a better and more appetizing aroma, probably due in part to a proper dose of sweet malts.

Very nice flavor with spicy rye, sweet and toasted malts, and hops in good proportioned.
I see some rather low ratings for this beer which I suspect are due mainly to a less aggressive hop profile than some prefer.

Medium body and medium+ carbonation with a lively feel and a unusually dry finish.

O: One of the best I've had from Magic Hat. Recommended, and highly recommended at this price point.

LOOK: Clear copper. Soapy head, some lace.

AROMA: Earthy, woodsy hops, floral, grapefruit.

TASTE: Spicy rye and citrus hops. Clean graininess. Mildly sweet with a faint bitterness. Rye and caramel play nicely off the hops.

FEEL: Medium bodied, well carbonated, drinks easy. Slightly thin but not overly so.

OVERALL: Mainstream Rye IPA. Good for what it is, shows the rye off well. I'd drink this again in quantity.

12oz bottle, a tall, frothy, ivory head tops an amber colored ale with slight haze. Excellent lacing all the way down the glass. Earthy nose with wet grain, rye, spice, caramel. Kind of odd smelling. Tastes are earthy, heavy on the mashed grain, caramel, spicy rye, not much bitterness, more like a rye English Pale Ale rather than a Rye IPA. Fuller body, smooth, extra creamy. Overall, this was kind of all over the place, but aside from that it was still pretty enjoyable.

Hazy deep chocolate-colored body, solid light tan head with plenty of lace, moderate sediment and fine streams of carbonation rise. Nose offers warm malt and raisin, a bit of sweet spice, mild hop bitterness. The flavor is predominantly malty, like caramel and toasty malt, with a bit of spice and tea-like bitterness on the finish. Body is medium-full, fine and assertive carbonation, great weight, and slightly astringent, letting me know that this is in fact an IPA
This is not a bold, spicy, bitter beer; rather it is like an English IPA performed with rye. Wonderful balance, although I think the emphasis (malt) was on the wrong side of the equation. Although the label/style was misleading, this was still a tasty, satisfying brew.
