On-tap 3/30/2014 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub, in Pawtucket, RI served in a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep coppery brown color, with a large foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains earthy hops, caramelized malts, some citrus and other fruits.

T: The taste starts out with mildly sweet flavors of caramel and citrus. Then a strong but not over-powering earthy hops bitterness comes in to provide a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is dry and slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid beer to drink for while.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on September 3, 2013

The pour is mahogany amber with a long -lasting off-white foamy head that leaves some decent lacing.

The aroma tends to be on the sweet and nutty side with caramel notes and a mild crisp hoppiness to balance things off. Also a bit soapy in smell.

The body is medium but it rather creamy.

The taste is much like the aroma with an emphasis on the sweetness rather than amber bitterness one comes to expect from the style. Caramel malts and a mild hop finish but it's the sweetness that lingers.

12 ounce bottle poured into a 22 oz. Applebees/TGIF/Ruby Tuesdays glass.
A--Dark brown. Nearly opaque with a touch of gold. Head dissipates quickly leaving little lacing
S--Sweet, roasted malts predominate. Minimal hoppiness, some dark fruitiness. Quite nice.
T--Sweet & malty. A little molasses to go with the main caramel flavor. Minimal fruitiness, despite more showing up in the nose. I usually have no use for an Amber or Red ale, but this one is pretty good. Much richer that I expect from the style; Thanks Magic Hat.
M--Nothing outstanding, but quite good. A bit tart at the finish, but not too much. Medium, neither creamy or dry.
O--I usually find Amber/Red Ales not to my liking. This is among the best I've had within that style. It actually reminds me more of an English Brown Ale (which I very much do like) than some Killian's Red crap. Magic Hat can have two thumbs up for this one.

An amber red ale with a very English ale taste. This one is certainly more hoppier than what you would see in traditional English ales. You get some smokiness due to the carmel malts. A nice session beer that suits the fall season and would buy again...

Bottle, poured in a pint glass.

A: Decent amber color w/ hit a red. Relatively translucent. Very small head. Minimal lacing.

S: Malty, caramel

T: Sweet, hint of chocolate/caramel

M: Nice hint of carbonation, not too overpowering, smooth.

O: Good red/amber ale. Great Fall beer.
