Pours a coppery red with a thin half finger of off-white foam.
Caramel malt, earthy hops, light citrus notes.
Citrus and fruity character but subtle, with some light caramel malt sweetness.
Light-bodied, low-medium carbonation, lackluster.
Overall, another mediocre brew from a mediocre brewery.

Appearance 2.0: LOL! The bottle says, "amber ale," but this beer pours out a dark, blackish brown that looks more like a porter or a stout. Does not look anything remotely like amber. That would be a reddish-golden color. Oh, my. Anyway, head was ok but smallish, about 1/4". I just can't get past the "amber ale" thing. Sorry.
Smell 3.5: Nice bouquet. Deep smoked grains with a slight hint of hops. Again, this makes me think "porter" not "amber ale."
Taste 3.5: Front is missing. Just cool liquid. Middle is slightly tart and smoky with a very faint hop bite in the middle of the palate. Finish is also slightly smoky with a very light treacle sweetness and a pleasant alkaline hop to lighten the taste. Aftertaste is of medium length and focuses again on the smokiness. Well-balanced taste, but nothing like any amber ale I have ever had.
Mouthfeel 3.0: Carbonation level was OK, but off for an ale, amber or otherwise. This level of low carbonation would be fine in a porter, but not an ale.
Overall 3.25: I don't know what to think of this beer. "Deveiled" could mean "deviled" or perhaps the "veil" of perception being lifted (e.g. "de-veiled"). Well, if the latter were true, then the "veil" of an "amber ale" has been lifted to reveal a pretty good "porter" underneath. This is a weird beer, but certainly is not a bad beer. However, if you are expecting an amber ale, you will be sorely disappointed. Just strange.

A robust take on the amber ale style. Hiding just beyond its malty core is a crisp, clean, hoppy aura that will open your eyes to the other side. Definitely not what you would expect from ah Amber ale with its bold malt character. It is worth a try and can be found in the new variety pack "Night of the Living Dead" by Magic Hat. I live in Western Massachusetts and purchsaed it at the Liquors 44 on route 9.
