This is the typical Americanized Irish pub on the west side of town. A big wood bar out front. Some TV's scattered about. There are about 30 taps. My favorites are Fuller's ESB, London Pride, Anchor Steam, and Saint Arnolds. Dales Pale Ale and Chimay are also on tap. The bottle list is below average. Manly generic macro and Euro lagers. They had a large menu. I had a steak sandwich that filled me up, but nothing that I would recommend. Typical pub grub with a bit of an English flair to some of the items. Mostly greasy and fried pub items. The service is spotty most nights. It can be hard to flag a waitress down if you are not sitting at the bar. There is a $3 pint night which is a good deal for Imperial pints. The quality of the taps are always spotty. Many taps are dirty or old kegs. I can't tell which one. Overall, an above average selection, but there are many other places around town that I prefer. The Stags head and Richmond Arms to name two that beat this place as a good American/English/Irish pub.

Went on a thursday night ($3 pint night), and it wasn't as busy as I had expected it to be! The atmosphere of the pub was very lively and there are many events held there, such as NASIOC meetups, and gatherings for sports matches (rugby, Celtic FC, Houston Dynamo). Also enjoyed that smoking is not allowed indoors. The selection is above average, and the bartenders provided prompt, solid service.

Don't forget that Guiness is $3.50 every day, and besides that, there are plenty of good food specials, so I'll have to make sure to try the food during my next visit. Make sure to stop by this place if you are in West Houston!

The Bull and Bear was near my hotel, so I decided to drop in for a beer. The atmosphere was decent in this place. They had a nice long wooden bar, 30 or so taps, and darts. It is a typical "American" Irish bar, but appeared to have a more authentic menu than most. The beer selection was average, but did have a few decent beers on tap and had proper glassware. The bartenders were friendly and had decent beer knowledge The beer menu was not very good. They listed the brewery, but not the type or style of beer. They also did not have a list of bottles? I did not ask what they had by the bottle, so I am not sure of the selection. The taps had a few interesting beers, but nothing too unusual. They were running specials on draft, so it was a good value to sit and have a few good beers. The beer list was pretty good for UK beers and a handfull of American micros. All in all, not a bad place to stop in for a pint if you are in the neighboorhood.

THis is my neighborhood haunt. Excellent beer selection with Irish favorites(Guinness and Smithwick's) to Chimay to Stella to US faves such as Anchor Steam and Sierra Nevada. Plenty of selections to choose from and is always updated. Menu for food is traditional pub style, with excellent prices. ALways have good food specials. Bartenders provide solid service. Excellent entertainment effect with dartboards and Golden Tee. Some nights they have Texas Hold Em. Crowd is a good mix of young and old.

A great new pub way out on the West Side of Houston. They have about 30 different beers on tap. The food is very good and you get 10% off your tab if the DOW is down at lunch time. I highly recommend the Irish stew if you get the chance. The menu also includes an impressive Foreign "affare" section with Bangers and Mash, Scotch eggs and the like. There is often live bands on the weekends and they have free wireless internet access. Its also next door to a Spec's Liquor store so you can drop in for pint after doing some shopping.
