Pours a honey color with about a finger of head. The nose is mildly hippy. The flavor is well-balanced and the finish is crisp and decently hoppy.
This makes for a nice session ale.

The most interesting thing on this beer is the Aroma. The bottle says the this was brewed using local hops from Northern Michigan, in particular Summit hops. Summit hops are known for their slight sweet onion, faint garlic characteristics. The smell is unlike anything you have smelled on a beer. For me the aroma on this is like a sweet pickled onion, I am also getting a bunch of bready sweetness, the bread that comes to mind is a semolina baguette. Quick fact, there is no such thing as a semolina baguette outside the US. So these midwestern hops lend a nice very original and unique aroma to this ale. Like an American original, the semolina baguette! Outside the very peculiar and interesting aroma the rest of the beer is above average. Slight citrus on the taste, some hay, some faint garlic hop bitterness in the end. Intriguing.

We recently began getting distro of Short's B.C. beers here in south-central PA & I am pretty excited about it! I have known those guys for years, between BA fests in BOS & my (usually) annual excursion to Madison, WI for the GTMW. I don't care if they are in bottles since I never expected them to come to me!

As I Pop!ped the cap, it gave me a second or two of pause in appreciation for probably my favorite set of caps, ever! They are bone-white with the Short's logo of a pair of short trousers with legs and feet hanging out of them, overlain by a hop vine. I may have to get my craft person to make me a special coaster ... Speaking of special, my pour was nothing special, just a gentle decanting as it seemed to have a haze in the bottle. A swirl lifted up two fingers of dense, eggshell-White head with good retention, developing nice lacing as it fell. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5). Nose was very earthy. A question was recently raised on this site about the concept of terrior as it applies to beer & I would cite this beer as an example thereof. That is not to suggest that something on the nose reminded me of Michigan, but instead, that it was unlike anything else in my memory, making it unique. In looking at Stan Hieronymus' tome, "For the Love of Hops", he mentions onions & garlic for aromas & tastes. Yes! Definitely on the nose! I like it, though. Especially since there is also a lemony zestiness. Very earthy on the nose. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy. The taste was actually tangy! The lemon, onion & garlic all commingled & interacted to produce a unique taste in this beer. Pretty hoppy for an APA, which would not have been my first guess. Just as the fellow on the label had hops & barley inside his jacket, this had an earthiness that tasted like it was out of someone's garden. Finish was dry and earthy. This would be great with a wide range of foods and even on its own, it was quite enjoyable, but I realize that it may not be for everybody.
