Notes / Commercial Description:
Bourbon Carrot Cake is an experimental dessert ale made with carrots, marshmallow, vanilla, maple syrup, orange zest, walnuts, pecans and spices and then aged in bourbon barrels. The aroma is enticing, emitting fragrances that literally recreate a slice of carrot cake that has been soaked in bourbon, right down to the cream cheese frosting. Incredibly complex, yet surprisingly balanced, the flavor of each specialty ingredient seems to take its turn. Pleasant flavors of spice and cream resonate on the pallet causing an uncontrollable craving to taste more.

32oz screw-top growler poured into a Short's goblet. Thanks brownbrian for the hook-up.

A- Pours a translucent golden brownish with a reddish orange hue. About a quarter finger of white head forms that recedes to a flat top, nice consistent carbonation after having been in the growler for about a month.

S- Fairly spiced with nutmeg, cinnamon, etc.. A little bit of vanilla cream, nuts, raisins, orange peel, slight carrots, rounded out with a sweet but not over the top bourbon presence. Pleasant smelling, complex, and pretty close to what you would expect from a carrot cake beer. Edit- becomes a little bit boozier as it warms.

T- Fairly spiced with a balanced sweetness. Flavors of nutmeg and other spices, orange zest, raisins, carrots, slight bourbon sweetness up-front. Finishes with raisins, more spices, a tangy orange zest presence, slight cream, and a bit of booziness. Not nearly as good as the aroma, slightly watery and the tangy orange zest ruins the carrot cake presence a bit.

M- Medium bodied, slight syrupy aspect, fairly drinkable, minimal carbonation but decent coming from a growler.

O- This was an interesting beer but wasn't quite as good as I was hoping for. The aroma was pretty spot on but slightly bozy and it was pretty tasty but the orange zest took over a tiny bit too much adding a slight tanginess to it detracting from the carrot cake. Overall this was a decent beer and really interesting to try but definitely not something I'd drink on a regular basis.
