Interestingly enough, purchased a sampler including the two brews needed to create this beer; I was able to try each individually before hand. Being a fan of darker beers I instantly fell in love with Twist of Cain, the Danzig inspired brew that amounts to 1/2 of this mix. Deacon Blues (the other half of the equation) is a fairly decent, nearly session beer. Together they create something that i've never experienced. Haven't thought to mix my brews and this concoction is delightfully stable. As previously mentioned, the punch of a black lager with the breeze of a pale ale. Definately worth checking out given the opportunity.

Steely Danzig is a combination of two Short's brews: Twist of Cain, a black lager, and Deacon Blues, a Belgian pale ale.
Poured from bottles into two tulips. A finger of head quickly becomes a thin ring that leaves a little spotty lacing. Color is a dark garnet with little carbonation. Aroma is a roasted-citrus-malty-hoppy-caramel with some bubblegum sweetness underneath from the Belgian yeast. The bubblegum aroma becomes more pronounced as the al warms. Tastes of roasted, toasted, sweet malt, with a smooth mouthfeel. More "refreshing" than a black lager and more substantial than a pale ale.
