Swirl Stout is a Milk Stout brewed with cacao nibs, vanilla, and milk sugar. The aromas are bold and sharp, reminiscent of a decadent chocolate liqueur or Kahlua. A satisfying blend of sweet creaminess and dark chocolate create the perfect balance. Roasted bitter flavors are noticeable, but its a lingering sweetness that ultimately drys the palate.

Upon the initial it looked as if it was thick and viscous. Smell did not overwhelm with only a hint of chocolate and sweetness. Taste was watery with only a slight cocoa hint. Feel was rather light and did not at all match up to the pour. Overall I was expecting much more than I got.

Pours pitch oily black. Thin mocha colored head disappears pretty quickly leaving just a thin ring of tan foam along the outside of the beer. Minimal lacing is noted on the glass.

Smell is sweet up front with a strong lactose aroma. Notes of vanilla make the aroma reminiscent of vanilla soft serve ice cream. Undertones of cocoa and roasted malts are also noted.

Taste follows the nose with a definite lactose sweetness up front. Notes of chocolate, cocoa, vanilla and sugar are noted. Gives way to a very nice roasted malt finish that lingers on the palate. The lactose seems to blend the flavors a bit - similar to how it would taste if you were eating a swirl cone. You get the chocolate and vanilla, but its blended.

Feel is thick, viscous and oily. Medium carbonation. Very smooth and drinkable.

Overall a more unique and tasty take on the milk stout. Its a sweet beer, so if that isn't your thing, you probably won't like this one. But if you enjoy a good milk stout its worth trying.

Appearance: A most excellent bubble show with a full three fingers mocha froth resulting; the liquid is fudge brown and the lacing is copious

Smell: Chocolate fudge and lactose, hints of vanilla and licorice

Taste: Opens with milk chocolate flavors; licorice and vanilla cream build through the middle; the finish is surprisingly dry

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: I like the dry finish that keeps the sweetness in check; a very nice milk stout

Thanks, RoguePT, for the opportunity

Poured and enjoyed straight from a mason jar.

A: Pours a dark chocolate fudge black with a milky, cocoa like foam that sticks to the glass and has long slow legs. Make sure you pour it with the head to enjoy that great milk stout foam.

S: Nice coffee with cream taste. You get hints of Mexican chocolate, coffee liquor flavor. Someone earlier mention Kahlua--almost, so a little boozy. You really get a sweet malty whiff that you would get from a quality chocolate milk shake.

T: It tastes as it smells. Delicious milk stout. It tastes like a chocolate mocha milkshake mixed with coffee. Really one of the best tasting milk stouts I've had as of late. It's rich and bold so you won't pound these but just has an amazing flavor.

M: Nice medium to full bodied beer. Leans more to full body. Does not leave a bitter or chalky after taste. Feels good and robust. Enjoy each taste.

O: One of the best milk stouts that I've had in recent memory. Nice blend of robust flavors balanced well with an easy creamy flavor like a chocolate malt.

I got a bottle of Short's Swirl Stout for $2.79 at The Lager Mill. I've been wanting to try this one since I swe it on the lineup so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a teku.

A- The label looks good it goes well with the beer and it's eye catching. It poured a dark black color that doesn't let any light come through and it has a little over a finger and a half worth of fluffy and creamy tan head that died down to a thick ring that eventually faded away and it left a little bit of patchy lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the malts being the first to show up and they impart some dark malt, roasted malt, chocolate and light coffee aroma with the chocolate sticking out the most and it imparts a nice milk chocolate aroma. Up next comes a creamy and sweet lactose aroma with some vanilla like aroma showing towards the end. This beer has a good aroma, I have no complaints.

T- The taste seems to be pretty similar to the aroma and it starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with the malts still being the first to show up and they impart the same aspects that they did in the aroma with the roasted and dark malts showing up nicely with the chocolate still sticking out the most imparting some nice milk chocolate flavors. Up next comes a creamy and sweet lactose flavors and on the finish there's hardly any bitterness with a little more sweetness taking it's place and it had nice roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and lactose like aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting beer, it reminds me of Uncle Steve's Irish Stout if it had some big chocolate and lactose flavors.

M- Smooth, creamy, a little crisp, on the thicker side of being medium bodied with a slightly higher amount of medium carbonation. The mouthfeel is great and it works very well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a very nice beer and a great example of the style, it had all the aspects that it was hoping it would have from it's description and they all worked very well together. This beer has good drinkability, I could drink a couple, especially on a cold day. What I like the most about this beer is the taste and mouthfeel, they were very nice and the highlights of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is nothing, there isn't anything that I would change. I would buy this beer again if they make it again and I would recommend it to anyone who likes chocolate and lactose in their stouts. All in all I was very happy with this beer and a little impressed, it came together to make for a very tasty and unique stout. It's not my favorite Short's beer, but it is a very nice example of the style. Great job guys, this is one tasty Stout.

Bottle date of 12/30/2015 printed on the neck of the bottle. Poured into a snifter. The aroma is dark roasted malts with hints of vanilla. Pretty faint, not a whole lot going on in the nose but the notes that are there are solid. The taste is more assertive with the roasted flavors standing out and a lingering sweetness in the finish. Overall, Short's Swirl Stout is a solid milk stout that I enjoyed.
