Melt My Brain is an experimental Golden Ale brewed with coriander, juniper berries, limes and blended with tonic water to create the tasting experience of drinking a gin and tonic cocktail. Delicate aromas of citrus and pine flow into bold bright flavors of sweet lime with a slightly sticky bitterness. Refreshing and clean, a tasty tonic effervescence provokes the palate for more. Melt My Brain was awarded a silver medal in the Experimental Beer category at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival.

August-October 2023 Citrus Seasonal Release - 6 pack
12 oz. can dated 081423 (8/14/23) - 4.0% ABV / 24 IBU
Brewed and canned in Elk Rapids, MI
Poured into a Bell's branded tulip snifter glass

Look - Pours a dense and fizzy off-white head that sticks around. Cloudy, light orange appearance.
Smell - The scent is mostly lime, but you can pick up faint amounts of juniper and coriander.
Taste - The taste is much more balanced, with the juniper and coriander taking equal parts with the lime. The tartness is minimal, and there's even a slight bitterness on the tail end.
Feel - Medium bodied with a sharp yet sticky mouthfeel and finishes with minimal dryness.
Overall - A very interesting combination of flavors and the drinkability is very high.

Had 12 oz bottle at move in day at Alma with George outside Wright Hall. As advertised for sure! 4% didn’t matter after the first sip, tasted like a grape Faygo after at 1 hour of mowing grass in 95degree heat. Excellent idea with Ale+tonic water and the fruit spices. Very impressed and telling other about the find this year. Well done Shorts!!

I picked up a 6 pack can for like $10.

Melt My Brain is bright yellow. Head but no lacing. It's interesting because it's very light on the malts while not resorting to adding actual gin in a desperate attempt to rescue the low ABV rating. That said, if you love gin, you will appreciate this.

It's smells fruity and spicy and tastes citrusy and piney--Sweet and sour, finishing with lime.

My glass is now empty after 4 minutes. Very easy to drink.

I've always been a fan of Shorts Brewing. Their Juicy Brut is one of the tastiest ales I've experienced. Huma Lupa Licious is a strong IPA with kick. I'm glad they made the switch to cans.

The craft beer scene is new to many folk and the bottles can hang around stores for awhile--depending on who's distributing them-and the aluminum helps protect their flavorful character.

Bottled 3/17/16; drank 4/9/16 @ the Yarchives.

Cloudy pale yellow appearance.

A violent pour yielded a small, noisy bright white head which quickly dissipated; decent lace.

Lime soda & pine needle notes in the nose; reminds me of margarita mix!!

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Tart lime soda flavor up front; sharp pine needle notes on the finish.

They went for gin & tonic but landed on cloying margarita mix. My last.

Surprised by the light clear pour. Nose was a bit skunky. Drinks like a cider which I believe is the plan. Sweetness fades quickly. Would be a good one for a poolside drink.

Appearance – pours clear golden yellow with a decent thin white head that very quickly dissipates to a thin ring.

Aroma – Lime, lemon zest and coriander are prominent right off the bat. Little bit of grain underneath and a slight floral aroma.

Taste – Man the flavors really pop. Lime, lemon, maybe raspberry or boysenberry?? The taste is much fruitier than the nose let on. Slightly sweet with a mild floral finish.

Feel – Really light bodied at first but I am not sure if it is the fruit or what gives it a slightly dry syrupy finish.

Overall – I really like this one, pretty light very flavorful and easy drinking.

Melt My Brain brewed by Short's Brewing Company, with an ABV of 4.00% This brew pours out of 32oz growler into a pint beer glass a light slightly hazy amber color with a small white head. Thin spotty lacing to this brew, it does stick to the side of the glass. The smell is rich with citrus flavors, spices and grains and malts. This is classified as a American Blonde Ale but seems to be more of a sour, but that is beside the point. So far this is a nice inviting brew, now for the taste, it is different but in a good way. You first pick up on a Spicy Citrus flavors mixed with grains and malts. I really like the tartness an spice in this brew. The body of Melt My Brain is a solid medium. There is nothing overpowering about this brew, it has a super nice balance to it. This is a real easy drinking brew, not a high ABV, it would go nice on a hot summer day. The mouth feel is Citrus, Spicy, Clean, Smooth, and Refreshing. Overall I am going to give Melt My Brain a Soild 4 out of 5. I would definitely look this brew up again giving the opportunity to.Short's Brewing Company, did a nice job with this brew.

I got this brew in a blind pick in the growler section at the store, so it is what it is, I really enjoy drinking an reviewing this brew.

This beer should have a lot going on in the flavor/taste area, but it falls short (oops!) as it's mainly sweet from the coriander and berries, but there's not much of a contribution from the juniper which would have made for an interesting beer. The lime is also a bit overplayed and manifests mainly in the aftertaste. Not a bad beer, but I probably wouldn't look for it again.
