Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more.

A: Pours a mild to dark amber.

S: Hints of citrus, pine, and hops.

T: Bitter start that transitions into a sharp hopped body with hints of grapefruit/citrus zest, and floral/earth.

M: Dry from start to finish.

O: This beer is a Short's top 5. Hop heavy, yet easy to drink. A solid go to beer.

12oz bottle from Beer Baron (Detroit, MI).  2.49. Bottled 5/09/12. Served in a Cigar City snifter.

Pours clear orange amber with a half finger chalky head. Little lace.

Smells of grapefruit, pine and biscuity malts.

Taste mixes bittersweet grapefruit, rind, sweet bread and spice.

Medium light feel, mild carbonation. Long dry bitter aftertaste.

Above average but nothing stands out.

Pours bronze/amber and cloudy. Small white head that dissipates quickly. Lacing is minimal.

Smells of hops, slight smell of malt. Piney, not so much citrus, but a typical IPA smell.

Tastes slightly more bitter than most IPA's, but the balace is just about right. Certainly a "hopmonster". Slight taste of malts and sweet citrus flavor, but more bitter than anything. The flavor was bold and complex.

Finishes pretty dry, but it drinks easy.

This is a bitter IPA that is just above average imo.

Golden pour, little foam, decent lacing. Smells just like hopslam, what I would expect from a hop heavy beer like this. Taste was in a way similar to hopslam, though less balanced, though more bitter despite feeling as if it wasn't anymore hop heavy. Bitter aftertaste. Enjoyable though, as it is $5 cheaper than hopslam in my area. Don't have too much more to say about this beer other than its a solid, yet bitter, hop monster of a beer.
