Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more.

Looks golden and cloudy. Looks good to me, but I've never been that attracted to clarity.

Wonderful aroma, best part of the beer. Smells of sweet grapefruit and tangerine, and is overall quite perfumy and sweet smelling. A little bit of hop herbalness too. Definitely smells of fresh hops.

Tastes like a medley of citrus fruits intimated at by the smell, with a peach/mango undercurrent. Piney when I burp. There is a noticeable amount of general malt sweetness, but the hops are dominant leading to a bitter a dry finish.

Feels good in the mouth. Feels fairly light, but not thin.

I feel like if I had access to this beer, I could easily put down a few in a session. It has the right body, bitterness, and flavor to make it highly drinkable. Overall very impressive IPA. Thanks nickwin.

thanks to nathan!

pours super murky orange with a light white head and amazing retention. nice lacing.

light floral and citrus hops, a touch of pine. sweet malts

very bitter with strong notes of grass and earthy flavors. finish gives way to light bitter citrus. light malt presence.

light thin carbonation. very light and clean.

a very interesting IPA. big earthy flavors set this apart from most but its quite refreshing and terribly easy to drink. seek this out!

a - pours a bright golden amber color, one-inch frothy ivory head, great retention and lacing, very hazy

s - big piney hop aroma, lighter lemon and orange citrus, significant biscuit malt notes underly the hops

t - somewhat sweet citrus burst up front with a heavy, bitter dose of piney hops on the midpalate, finish is more pine mixed with a nice biscuit malt backbone, light alcohol heat and lingering citrus notes

m - medium-bodied, moderate carbonation, pretty dry on the finish, light alcohol warming

d - pretty drinkable in that the flavors are interesting and enjoyable, but the intense bitterness definitely limits somewhat b/c it wears a bit on the palate, that said, I could drink this all night

Really good IPA from Short's. Definitely worth seeking out if you're a fan of West Coast style IPAs.

Big thanks to Erikkoppin for this tasty IPA!

A - Poured lighter copper, darker orange color. Slight haze through the glass. One finger head that leaves quickly but not before leaving traces on the glass.

S - Mostly pine, citrus smell coming from hops. Not as strong most IPA's go. A faint hint of bready malts at the end of the nose.

T - For not much aroma, this makes up for in taste! Sweet citrus hop flavor up front. Before you know it a strong pine bitterness right in the middle. Malts at the end balance out very well to ease up on the bitterness. There is a lot of flavor going on from start to finish. Would almost guess this is a IIPA.

M - Medium body. Moderate carbonation. For a pretty bitter beer, goes down rather smooth!

D - Well I wasn't familiar with Shorts brewing before, but I am now! This is an very good IPA. Very good characteristics make it one I'd love to get more of. Thanks again to Erik for the great hookup!

Served on-tap at the Old Chicago in Okemos, MI.

A huge 25 oz. mug of this bad boy. A lovely orange with white sudsy head that left webby lace.

Smelled strongly of citrusy hops as well as some pine. Let me know I was in for a strongly hoppy treat.

Taste: Strongly hoppy with sweet honey malts, pineapple hops, and citrus. Ended bitter and resiny. Yum. Reminded me of Majaraha. A wee bit on the bitter side for me, but hoppy and delicious.

MF and D) Sharp carbonation, tingly, medium body. Delicious and easy to drink. I actually guessed the alcohol was higher than it is, at 7-8%, but that was based on how I was feeling, not the presence of alcohol in the taste or feel.

A good MI IPA. I'll get it again.

Got from FlanderNed, thanks! Look out...gusher! Served at fridge temp. Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Allagash tall snifter. Pours a pale golden color with a gigantic white frothy head...which lasts a long time! Appearance is very hazy. Leaves great patchy/frothy lacing.

Aroma is pleasant...lots of citrus and hops. Picking up crisp fruit, grapefruit. Slightly malty aroma.

Flavor is very good! Light, crisp, and hoppy mouthfeel! The hops are semi sweet and bitter for a great transition. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Not boozy...lots of citrus and grapefruit like flavors. Overall, a very good and impressive IPA.

140 IBU advertized. i believe it, this one is not for the faint of heart, though more drinkable than other IBU landmines out there, like Resin, IMVHO. the malts do balance this one out. nice floral nose too.

This beer pours a slightly hazy burnt orange color and has a 2 finger bubbly eggshell white head. Leaves many hanging sheets of lacing. Smell is dank, floral, pine, earthy, grapefruit with some honey like sweetness from the malt. Taste is the same with the pine and floral tastes being the most dominant with a decent malt backing that holds up pretty well against the instense piney bitterness. Feel is medium and very resinous with good carbonation. Overall this beer is great and I wish it was available in my area.
