BEER INFO

Brewed by:

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Named after the hop flower Humulus Lupulus, this India Pale Ale style beer has enormous amounts of hop bitterness, flavor and aroma. With a very complex malt bill, flavors seem to meld with the hops to balance this ale and provide a ridiculous urge to sample more.

Bottled 9/13/17

Amber color, clear, with a huge, sticky, foamy head and tons of lacing.

Pine and lemon hops for miles on the nose.

An enormous amount of bitter, hoppy pine with a small, sweet malt presence.

Medium mouthfeel and slightly high carbonation.

Overall a bit too much pine resin flavor for me but decent beer.

Appearance - Pours slightly hazed and burnt golden in color with a rocky, off-white, near two-finger width head. great retention, resulting in a thin, consistent layer of suds on the surface and building to a thick ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell - Citrus and floral hops with a big caramel malt undertone.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange and floral hop flavor upfront and throughout. Caramel malt belly gives it a bit of a candied citrus taste. Backend gets bitter with a big pithy bite and some earthy wood character that lingers well into the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with slightly tingly carbonation. Kind of a bland texture with a dry finish.

Overall - Solid IPA but nothing particularly noteworthy. Certainly worth an occasional buy, especially if variety is limited at your place of purchase.

Yuck. A very nasty, unpleasant beer that in no way is like any IPA you have ever experienced - which, as you may have deduced, is not a good thing in this case. Huma-whatever is an IPA that should never have been brought to market.

Slightly hazy golden color, quickly dissipating head on this beer. Smell isn't very pungent, like a lager with slight hop smell. The flavor is much more hoppy than the scent. Very crisp and butter, just lightly dank. Not much fruit, mostly pine flavor. I don't mind this beer, but I won't go out of my way for it. A nice lady at a store bought it for me after we talked about beer, so I'll cherish every drop. Overall, I just don't think I like shorts beer that much. I'm always open to have my mind changed though.
