Nicie is an American Wheat Ale brewed with orange zest, lemon zest, coriander, and a hint of peppercorn. Orange-gold in color and light in body, Nicie is infused with the scents and flavors of fresh citrus. The subtle taste of coriander and spice of peppercorn makes this ale both refreshing and complex. Nicie is the perfect accompaniment to a summer day.

June 2023 Passion Project Release - 6 pack
12 oz. can dated 060723 (6/7/23) - 4.7% ABV / 37 IBU
Brewed and canned in Elk Rapids, MI
Poured into a Bell's branded nonic pint glass

Look - Pours a dense and fizzy white head that sticks around for a second. Clear and very light orange appearance with a good amount of streaming bubbles.
Smell - The scent is a nice combination of all of the adjuncts.
Taste - The taste follows the nose, but you get a spiciness from the peppercorn and citrus zest.
Feel - Medium bodied with a spicy mouthfeel and finishes with minimal dryness.
Overall - All of the flavors blend well together, and the spiciness adds nice character to an easy drinking wheat beer.

355 ml bottle, shared with OleR at Olympen, Oslo. American Wheat Ale with orange zest, lemon zest, coriander and peppercorns. Hazy golden colour, low white head. Sourish bread dough aroma, also hints of citrus and coriander. Sourish (house character?) flavour with notes of citrus. Could use more coriander, and definitely more hops.

Bottled 5/13/16; drank 7/6/16 @ the Yarchives.

See-through yellow/orange appearance; champagne bubbles throughout.

A rough pour yielded a small white head which quickly dissipated; minimal lace.

Lemon, lime & peppercorn notes in the nose.

Thin mouthfeel. lemon, lime & mild perfume flavors up front; black pepper bite on the finish, which also settled on my lips.

An odd, interesting amalgam that is more interesting than it is enjoyable.

Guys they aren't joking about the peppercorn in this beer. It leaves a nice heat in your throat after every mouthful. I think its a rather enjoyable beer, but it certainly isn't showy in the glass! But its nice after a hot day enjoying a cooler evening.

A - Pale orange body, minimal white head and lacing.

S - Primarily light sour grain notes. A hint of spices.

T - Flavor is a mild sour open, apple flesh and a bit of citrus. Quiet close.

M - Brisk clean throughout.

O - A slight brew. Taste is pleasant, but the nose is less so. Decent, but not inspiring.

When it was announced that Short's Brewing was going to be getting distro into PA, my heart went pitty-pat! I have known these guys since the early part of the century when they were coming to the BeerAdvocate fests at the Cyclorama. I have embroidered cloth patches from them & sport them proudly on my vests & jackets. We did not get everything from them, initially, but as time has passed, so has the depth and breadth of what they are sending us increased. Accordingly, I am trying to keep up with their releases.

From the bottle: "American Wheat Ale with orange zest, lemon zest, coriander and peppercorns"; "a gentle mixture of elegance and redolence for any occasion".

Just "Nicie" now, eh? I believe that when it was originally released, it was called "Nicie Spicie". The inclusion of peppercorns is especially interesting, since I believe that it all originated with The Brewer's Art, a story for another time.

I Pop!ped the cap, but having read of others' mention of a slight haze, I went with a gentle pour. Once I had a sufficient amount in the glass, a vigorous swirl raised nearly three fingers of foamy, soapy, bone-white head that quickly reduced to wisps. I registered the color as Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4), although it could have been as high as Gold (5), but there was no interest from The Gelt Gang who were watching the NHL Network's All-Star coverage from the couch in my living room. I produced 24-carat clarity from my pour, so I am sticking with my perception. Nose had a spicy citrusiness, but I am sure that I could not have parsed all of the individual components on my own. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, not watery, but not much beyond it, either. I think that after my foray into yesterday's peppercorn Tripel, I am much more sensitive to the flavor that it impart. That said, I also registered a definite citrusiness, although I got orange more strongly than lemon. Finish was spicy and dry, which is to be expected when adding spices to beer. Its refreshing nature makes it a real summer beer and I just wish that they would follow others' lead and begin CANning. This would be great on a hot, humid summer's day doing something outdoors.

Picked the Nicie up off the Binnys single shelf. It poured a clear golden with white head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had lemon hints with touch of spice. The taste had a floral combination of citrus and coriander then finished with a nice warmth. The Mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a decent beer.
