Notes / Commercial Description:
Soft Parade is a Fruit Rye Ale brewed with rye flakes and loaded with pureed strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. The rose colored ale has aromas of ripe strawberries and grain. With flavors of fresh berries and rye, Soft Parade finishes dry and eminently drinkable.

Soft Parade was originally developed because Joe Short wanted to create a beer that incorporated a medley of berries, had a great color, and appealed to wine drinkers. The name Soft Parade stemmed from two moments in Joe Short’s life. First, because Joe worked as a brewer at the Traverse Brewing Company and The Doors album, The Soft Parade, played every day at the end of the brew shift. The second moment occurred when Joe was driving by himself, flipping through CD’s in his car, and came across The Soft Parade album again. At the time, The Soft Parade beer had not been named and it dawned on Joe that the medley of fruit infusing into the golden beer reminded him of a soft parade. That day the beer was named!

Clear reddish orange color with pinkish head. Aroma is really fruity with strawberries and raspberries coming out most. Also some cream/yogurt like notes. Taste is just slightly fruity with some astringent bitterness on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. Not what I expected from the aroma. The flavors don't combine well together.

Picked up 6pk of bottles from Meijer in SW Michigan for $10. Poured from bottle dated 6/19/17 into tulip glass.

L: Clear rose colored copper with thick white head that dissipates fairly quickly with minimal lacing.
S: Fruit, especially berry and green apple, but mostly because you expect it; not terribly aromatic.
T: Mild fruit and rye, but very little body. Tannic, almost sour finish. More of a soured wine than infused beer.
MF: Light and crisp but under carbonated. Acidic bite but little alcohol presence.

Overall, interesting and possibly worth a try if you're interested in beers with wine characteristics, but ultimately not something I'll seek out again. Some easy tweaks that might improve the posture: more rye to add definition to the malt body, lower tannins from fruit skins, increased carbonation.

12 oz bottle, no date

Murky pinkish dark copper color. No head. Aroma is muted berries. Taste is oxidized and stale with fruity aftertaste. Old bottle? No date so no more buying their beer for me. Medium bodied.

Too much berry. Goofy fermented sour taste. Like rancid cough syrup. Not enough carbonation. Would not buy/drink again.

In general this one of my favorite overall beers that exists. It has a dark look to it but sweet to the taste with its fruit enriched flavor. For such high alcoholic content it goes down smooth and then hits you like a cannon. Be careful they're good, but more than 4 and you will forget where you are.

Bottled on 1/3/17. Served from bottle into glass at home. Pours pale rose in color, medium low clarity with short lasting white head. Aroma of red fruit and berry, like strawberry or raspberry jelly, and a mild graininess. Some floral character noticeable as well. No hop aroma detected. Flavor is primarily more red fruit and berry, less definable than the aroma. Finish is dry, almost wine like. Medium light body with medium high carbonation. Overall this beer is underwhelming. The aroma and flavor are both simple somewhat artificial fruit and berry. The dry finish, body and carbonation make it very drinkable. There are very little "beer" characteristics, to the point that if I was handed this I would assume it was a wine cooler. I appreciate the attempt but feel as though there are better ways to make a fruit and berry focused beer.

I bought a bottle of this off the single shelf at Meijer's in the 'wego and tries it with neighbors. It poured a clear faint pink with white head and no lace. The scent had ripe fruit. The taste was mix of sour with ripeople fruit. The Mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's ok.
