No date on bottle. Poured into stout glass. It pours nearly ink black with an impressive, khaki-colored head and lacing. The smell features roasted malt, coffee, and subtle but discernible black cherry. The cherry really comes through in the taste; it's tart and blends well with the burnt coffee and bakers chocolate. It has a typical porter body: not very thick but pleasant to drink. The 6% ABV adds to the lightness in the mouth feel. Overall, it's nicely conceived and crafted. I was concerned the black cherry would be cloying which wasn't the case. If a good cherry porter could be brewed in any state, it would be Michigan.

Very dark with a burgundy tinge. Large mocha-colored head. Sweet/tart cherry nose with chocolate. Tart cherry flavor mixing with coffee bitterness. Finish is a little more harsh than I'd like.

Pours near black with a thick, medium, light brown head that lasts a while. Good lacing

Smells of tart cherry, roasted malt and chocolate

Tart cherry and roast. Followed by chocolate and finishes dry with a lingering coffee. Medium body light carbonation gives good creamy feel.

Good tasting but looks amazing

Oh man this tastes nasty to me. So burnt. I think it's probably awesome for those into that. Never again for me though. Looked nice. Big dirty head like I like.

12 fl. oz bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours black and is topped with a half inch of mocha head that leaves a lace ring from the initial pour.

I smell dark cherries and roasted malt.

The taste is dark fruit, roasted malt, and unsweetened chocolate.

Medium to full mouthfeel. Smooth

It kind of reminds me of a Baltic porter as I typically get dark fruit flavor and aroma from them. It works pretty well. A nice beer for a frigid, late November evening.

A - Pours a very dark brown with a two finger tan head. The head recedes to a thin ring leaving lots of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma of tart cherries, roasted malts, and dark chocolate.

T - The flavor is tart cherries and dark chocolate upfront with smokey roasted malts in the finish.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Soft creamy mouthfeel.

O - A nice beer, but the smokiness tends to overpower the flavor.

Appearance: pours a solid black color. a finger to two of a tan head with strong retention and leaving behind a big frothy lacing. completely dark and opaque.

Smell: roasty and chocolate malts. some smokiness, mix of tart and sweet cherry.

Taste: opens with a smokey flavor mixing with some sweet malt flavor. the malts are roasted and strongly chocolate. some cherry juice comes in giving off a mixture of sweet and tart cherries. the cherry flavor is drawn out and a little bit of smokiness returns.

Mouthfeel: heavy and a bit on the chewy side. there is a lot fighting for control here but in the end the bitterness and subtle smoke win out and linger on.

Overall: I have been wanting to try this beer since i started drinking a lot of shorts and I was pumped to see it return. I was not let down. a tough flavor to put into the beer without coming off medicinal and overly sweet but I think they found a nice balance with the smoky and roastiness.
