Cherry to start. The cherry is mildly artificial. Then it follows with roasted malt and a tad bit of chocolate.

On tap. Look is dark black more like a stout. Smell is roasty malts. Maybe some cherry but probably because I know it is there. Taste is also malts followed by some sour/bitter from the cherry. The fruit itself is very light if at all. Feel is a bit thin, but the 7% abv is well hidden. Overall an ok effort but I won't run back for it

Appearance - The beer poured a blackish brown with reddish hues in the body and head.

Smell - The nose emits some cherry notes, but is generally more malt forward.

Taste - I detect tart cherry notes, but it is not what I was looking for. The cherry is there, but it is not enough. The malts are too forward with an odd acidic smokiness that just does not work with the cherries. Smoke and cherries borders dangerously close to being a mess. The cherries try to be important in the aftertaste, but the smoke cancels it.

Mouthfeel - The carbonation is appropriate for the style, though the feel is thin.

Overall - I really want to like this one, but smokey cherries just does not work for me. If this is just an odd batch, the batch consistency at Short's is perplexing.

Poured into a snifter it has a brown head of 3 inches and a black body (nice lacing). Smell of slight sweet cherry, roasted malt, chocolate, and some coffee. Taste is sweet cherry, chocolate, slight smokey roasted malt, licorice, and a larger amount of coffee. Mouth feel is moderate to full so is the body with good amount of carbonation (medium, slight crisp). A very nice chocolate coffee cherry flavor that doesn't favor any of the three too much and a nice balanced sweet and bitter. More of a stout than a porter though.

A fruity porter, an interesting red hue and froth, amazing fruit flavor finished off by a tremendous burst of hop flavor. I would recommend it.
