A malty amber ale over toned with slight caramel flavors and notable pleasant hoppiness throughout. An international award winning recipe.

Brownish amber in the glass. Plenty of coarse foam. Really pleasant nose of roasted grain and fragrant hops. Quite light bodied with a sudsy mouthfeel.
Pronounced nutty flavor is the best feature at the first sips. It is soon submerged in the bitterness. Thin and sharp, followed by a long bitter aftertaste. It almost tastes like some old cinnamon spice is in the mix, making for a dirty taste in the back of the throat. Still, if you like a more bitter ESB, this one may be appealing.
From the 12 oz bottle bought at Grapevine Liquor in Denver.

Bottle at Schouskjelleren, Oslo. Amber colour, moderate but lasting off-white head. Aroma of ripe berries, tobacco and resinous hops, hints of ashes. Infected? Fruity and acidic flavour, resinous hops. Tastes clearly infected.

Pours a dark red amber with a foamy tan head that lasts quite a while. Sweet aroma of fruit. Taste is fruity with a good bit of bitterness. Good mouth feel.

Interesting bitter brew with some nice muted flavors. Pours a dark amber color with just a little head and no lacing. Smells faintly of malt and a little spice, tastes similarly along with some tea tannins, bitter hops and caramel. Smooth thin mouthfeel, good carbonation that weakened as the beer warmed.

I did not know this was an ESB and so did not get around to trying it until recently. I bought it thinking it was an american amber, which I like as well but not as much as ESB. It does actually taste a bit like an amber, although it also resembles an ESB. It's really good. My only criticism is that it's over hopped, which seems to be case with the majority of American ales.

12oz bottled 8/25/17 (not visible until poured, black ink on bottle neck) poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp with no ABV on label. The beer pours bright deep red, orange amber in color with khaki head. The head recedes to a thin film and leaves some lacing. The aroma is very muted caramel malt. The taste is vague caramel malt at first that transforms to big English malt and an equal part of earthy hops. The aftertaste is almost tea like, which I have noticed in other English malt beers. Mouthfeel is medium to thin bodied, lowly carbonated, smooth and somewhat dry. Overall, very good if you are sticking to style. A nice beer anyway. I wish they would put some info and a date on their labels.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle poured into a Founder's Harvest Party pint. Bottled on 8/28/17, making this just over 1 month old.
A: Pours a slightly hazy burnt orange/amber color. Lacy white head.
S: The aroma really makes this a Fall beer. Nice notes of caramel, grape, cashew, honey.
T: Grape, caramel malt, bready sweetness. Just enough hop flavor on the finish to keep it crisp.
M: Medium body, not boozy at all. Great carbonation.
O: First had this beer 6 years ago. Was one of my early introductions to the great lore of Michigan Fall beers. This is always a great way to kick off the Fall drinking season. Just enough hop crispness to ease you out of the hoppy summer beers and then slowly into the malty and sweeter Octoberfest and Pumpkin beers. It's a great transitional beer that stands out from the rest. Very drinkable and just seasonal enough. Awesome artwork, too.
Recommendation: I'd be shocked if you haven't tried this beer by now, but I still highly recommend this beer to kick off your Autumn.
