Notes / Commercial Description:
Slurm Lord is a double New England style India Pale Ale brewed with oats and a blend of Citra, Azacca, Amarillo, Galazy, and Mosaic hops. We’re excited to say that the brewing of Slurm Lord employs the largest dry hop to date in SBC history! Deep orange in color with a permanent haze and a minimal head, a glass of Slurm Lord resembles a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. Aromas of dank passion fruit, mango, and pineapple are accompanied by bold flavors of citrus. This medium-bodied India Pale Ale is incredibly juicy from start to finish. A final sip leads into a slight, warming bitterness.

A: Incredibly cloudy orange colored brew, it indeed does look like a glass of orange juice. Smallish white head.

S: Dank with some resinous notes, and a heap of citrus. Perhaps a touch of onion.

T: Big hop flavor. Definitely some onion, mixed in with earthy hops, citrus, and dank. Tons of hop flavor in this, but fairly moderate bitterness.

M: Medium thick, with fine subdued carbonation.

O: Interesting hop flavors.. almost homebrew like in it's raw hoppiness. Mouthfeel seems a bit off for me, but not a bad brew.

A twelve ounce bottle dated 07/13/17 poured in a 13oz. pub style glass.

Look- Pours a cloudy pale yellow producing a small finger of creamy white foam. It slowly settles to a thin layer leaving a small amount of lacing behind.

Smell- Spicy dank floral/weed.

Taste- Spicy and floral up front followed by dank weed and acidic grapefruit and mango.

Feel- Medium thick and resiny with a pronounced burn that borders acidic. It literally burns the throat going down.

Overall- Looks like a NE style IPA, smells more like a wet hop ale, tastes somewhere in between. Not a bad beer, just a little overdone in my opinion. A little too much dank acidic spice taste and not enough creamy smoothness usually associated with the style. I'm hoping a few more weeks smooths this out. With so many good ones out there, this is an easy pass for me next time.

I picked up a six pack of Short's Slurm Lord last week at Meijers. I've been wanting to try the original version of this beer, but since I missed out on that one this should be the next best thing, so lets see how it goes. Poured from a brown 12oz bottle into an IPA glass.

A- The label looks nice, it's got a nice trippy design to it and it's eye catching. It poured a turbid pale orange color that didn't let any light come through and it had a little over a fingers worth of slightly fizzy off white head that died down to a thin ring that stayed till the end and it left a little bit of small spotty lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer for the style, but I'm still not a fan of that turbid look.

S- The aroma starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops being the first to show up and they impart a big, bright and juicy citrus and tropical fruit aromas with some mango, grapefruit and oranges sticking out the most with some light floral and green hops like aromas showing up in the background. Up next comes just a little bit of doughy yeast that leads into the malts which are on the lighter side and impart some light grainy, pale malt, bready and sweet malt like aromas. This beer has a very nice aroma, the citrus and tropical fruits really shine.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma, but not as juicy and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the hops still being the first to show up and they impart all the same aspects, but this time they aren't as juicy and the green hops and a little bit of the floral hops seem to show more this time and they really balance out those fruity flavors. Up next comes a slight bit of doughy yeast and that leads into the malts which impart all the same malty aspects that they did in the aroma, but this time they show up just a little more with no single aspect seeming to stick out the most. On the finish there's a higher amount of medium bitterness with a very hoppy aftertaste. This is a pretty nice tasting beer, but I wish the taste was a little more like the aroma.

M- Fairly smooth, a little oily, a little crisp, slightly creamy, on the thicker side of being medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice and it works well with this beer.

Overall I thought this was a pretty nice beer and I thought it was a nice example of the style, I've had better, but shorts did a nice job at making it true to style for the part, but a little more of those fruity flavors would have really helped it nail the style. This beer has nice drinkability, I could drink a couple, but I think that would be my limit. What I like the most about this beer is the aroma, it's very nice and to me it's easily the highlight of this beer. What I like the least about this beer is that the taste wasn't more like the aroma, that would have really helped it out. I would buy this beer again, but I don't think it's something I would stock up on and I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice IPA that's fairly true to style. All in all I liked this beer, but I didn't love it and I think with a little more work on the taste this could be a very nice beer. It's not my favorite Short's beer and it's a solid example of the style. Nice job guys, this is solid NE IPA, keep it up.
