BEER INFO

Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.50%

Availability: Spring

Notes / Commercial Description:
Loaded with hops like an IPA, yet drinks like a Pale Ale, we simply decided to call it a Strong Pale Ale. The fragrant, earthy citrus laced nose is instantly detectable. Large amounts of toasted grains and high alpha Simcoe hops form a perfect union that creates the cool sensation of toasted sourdough covered with zesty grapefruit hop marmalade.

12oz bottle, no bottled on date. Extra'd by Kevin, thanks man. Poured into a Three Floyds pint glass today, 3/15/2014.

App- Hazy caramel-orange body. One finger white head, good retention, drops into a thin film at the center. Leaves thin sticky lacing along the glass.

Smell- Hops. A bit herbal. Some grapefruit and pine. Crackers, bread are present from the pale malts but not contributing a lot.

Flavour- Crackers, bread from the nose but not much malt sweetness at all. Hops are a bit more forward- grapefruit and pine are the more dominant flavours. Finish is fairly pine-forward but not terribly bitter. Not bad.

Mouthfeel- Thinner bodied, kind of watery but does not appear to be "missing" anything. Drinkable, not bitter, no ABV heat at all. Finish is dry and piney. Very nice for an APA/session IPA.

Overall- Decent session IPA, nothing mindblowing. It is more like an APA rather than a session IPA like All Day in that this beer's malt presence does attempt to balance out the hoppiness.. it doesn't come close but it does attempt to do so whereas the big session IPAs out there are purposefully attempting to hide the malt backbone.

A - Pours a hazy copper with a one-finger foamy white head. Good amount of lacing.

S - Nice amounts of tropical fruit and a light amount of pine.

T - Big burst of tropical fruit upfront, mostly orange, peach, and grapefruit. Some sweet malts are also there. The finish has a piney earthy hop bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly dry finish.

O - This is a very flavorful session IPA. Would definitely drink again.

Aah shorts, my love em and hate em brewery. This offering pours a handsome copper color with a thick white head which gives way to a nice white lacing. The nose is hoppy citrus and pine with little malt undertones. The flavor is very pleasant at first with lots of citrusy hops and a pleasant biting bitterness but the aftertaste seems stale and unpleasant. Very dry and unsatisfying. It is very easy to drink and goes down quite smooth but with the unpleasant finish; why bother. It actually leaves you wanting to drink more to get the aftertaste out of your mouth. Not the worst shorts beer ive had but not one that I'll be buying again.
