Über Goober is an Oatmeal Stout brewed with peanuts. Pitch black in color with a mocha head, this beer has strong aromas of peanut butter, roast, chocolate, and oats. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel, the well-balanced chocolate and peanut flavors meld together like a peanut butter cup with a smooth finish. One of the oldest stouts in the Short’s portfolio, when found on tap at the pub it can be blended with Soft Parade to create PB&J Stout.

Poured from a 12-ounce bottle into a wine glass.

Appearance: Thick...initial head is a dark tan, while the beer itself is crude oil brown. Head dissipates pretty quickly, leaves a ring around the outside of the glass. Swirled around in the glass, the beer itself leaves a thick, oily residue on the glass. Looks really good.

Smell: Peanuts, for sure. The malt is nice and toasty, and there's just a hint of ester permeating the mix. Smells rich, just slightly sweet. For some reason, I am reminded of the Price is Right??? Hmm. I like the heavy peanut addition to the standard oatmeal stout formula.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Buttery feeling with an initial blast of peanut flavor. Swirled around on the tongue, some light carbonation reveals a gentle hop character. Super complex, taste goes between peanut, malt and hops with each passing second. Maybe a bit too crisp for an oatmeal stout...in my opinion.

Drinkability: A bit heavy and peanutty to drink all the time, but DEFINITELY worth a try. Haven't had anything like this before.

I would recommend this to peanut lovers, and stout lovers.

Pours a very deep black brown with a moderate head that sticks around briefly leaving a small edge ring and an oily swirl at the top of the beer.

Peanuts don’t jump out on the nose, and had I not read the label, I wouldn’t have placed them in this beer. Rather, I get toasted grain, a very light milk coffee aroma and some chocolate. Smells very good.

The peanuts I couldn’t smell are certainly present on the tongue. They are subtle but notable from the sip to the swallow. Roasted grains and chocolate are also present.

The body is lighter. This is an easy drinking imperial stout.

I enjoyed this. My wife liked it even more which is always nice in this ‘hobby.’

Poured at fridge temp. Pours jet black with a little bit of tan head. Nose is chocolate, walnuts, almonds, peanut butter, and some nice roasted malts. The taste is really interesting. There is a quick hit of bitterness. Dark chocolate, charred wood, roasted malts, and a bit of coffee grounds. The peanut butter and other nuts start to emerge after this. A slight sweetness, but this is much more roasty and bitter. A bit of smoke starts to come through. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a slight creaminess to it. Overall, a really nice stout with both traditional notes and some interesting nutty notes.

12 oz bottle, purchased in Indiana, into Carpe Brew'Em snifter.
No date on bottle.

Dark stout black with a creamy head of 1 finger that doesn't last long. A thin ring remains along with speckles of lace on the glass walls.

Aroma is peanut butter and peanut hull with hints of vinegar or grape wine. There is some roasted malt underneath it all.

Flavor is basic oatmeal stout, a hint of grape jelly, burnt rye toast, coffee grounds, and some slight dusty peanut hull. There is a stiff hop bitterness at the end, some tea bitterness, and a hefty metallic presence.

Feel is slick, roasty, and heavy, with some busy carbonation and some surprising acidity. Alcohol heat is here but is not overdone.

Overall, a bit of a lackluster trial here. Uber Goober is not something I'd be apt to revisit. Since there was no date on the bottle I'm not sure how long it has been sitting, but that's a cyclical problem as if I were to revisit it, I may run into the same issue.

January 2022 Specialty Release - 6 pack
12 oz. bottle dated 12/22/21 - 8.0% ABV / 30 IBU
Brewed and bottled in Elk Rapids, MI
Poured into Bell's branded nonic pint glass

Look - Pours a thin and fizzy cocoa-colored head that evaporates quickly. Opaque, pitch black appearance. 5/5
Smell - The scent is mostly roasted malt with peanuts hanging out in the background. Getting a lot more peanut butter aroma as the beer warms. 4/5
Taste - The taste follows the nose and the peanut butter is present in the aftertaste. The initial taste also has a cola nut quality. No bitterness or alcohol taste to speak of. 4/5
Feel - Medium bodied with a crisp and creamy mouthfeel and finishes dry. 4/5
Overall - Would've liked more peanut butter flavor as this drinks more like a cola soda. It is smooth and easy to drink. 4/5
