A - Black as night with a creamy and batter like khaki head that maintains throughout. Leaves rings around the glass after each sip.

S - Big floral nose - citrus hops, malts, licorice.

T - A rush of citrus hops followed by a nice balance of malts and finishes bitter in the back end that lingers.

O -This is a really solid brew that drinks more like a Black IPA to me. It is definitely worth it to grab one if you see it.

A - Pours a very dark brown with a two-finger oamy white head. Heavy lacing.

S - Big scent of citrus and roasted malts. Awesome smelling beer.

T - Citrus is right upfront. Dark roasted malt follow. Hops come through in the finish producing a nice earthiness.

M - Medium bodied with high carbonation. Smooth mouthfeel with a dry finish.

O - Very nice beer. One of the most balanced black IPAs I've had. Very drinkable with some nice bold flavors.

Jet black in color and no light is going to get through. A minimal wisp of beige foam. The hops are dominant in the aroma but there's almost a bit of a sweetness as opposed to bitterness. The taste is pretty sweet from the dark malt at the front of the palate and then followed quickly with an intense bitterness from the hops. That has some true staying power. The mouthfeel is pretty smooth with the bitterness really prickling your tongue.

poured 12oz bottle into snifter.

A - Pours a dark coffee color with some brown mixed in and big 3 finger tan head. The head fades and leaves behind rings of lacing.

S - Juicy, citrus, and earthy hops mixed with a nice roasted malt aroma.

T - Starts off with citrus hops, grapefruit bitter and earthy hop notes. Roasted and smoked malts blend in nicely. Finish is a fruity bitter.

M - Medium-full bodied with good carbonation. Feels smooth, bitter and dry.

O - Very nice Black IPA from Shorts that is on par with some of the better offerings in WI.

Bottled 11/08/13 (?) and poured into a shaker pint. Part of a $10 Mix-a-Six at Fairway Sav-Mor in Eastpointe, Michigan.

Appearance: Crystal clear ruby black with a creamy sand colored head on top. Incredible sip-for-sip lacing. Perfect in my book.

Smell: Holy hops, they aren't fooling around with this beer. Massive pine and earthy notes, with citrus undertones. A slight roastiness, but that super hoppy smell doesn't match its dark color.

Taste/feel: More of those hops. Tastes nothing like a black ale to me until the beer reaches the middle of the mouth and on the finish, when the roasty bitterness couples with the hops. A pretty damn bitter beer, so prepare yourself. Very dry, resinous, pleasant lingering hoppiness on the finish. Medium body with a medium carbonation, making this a pretty easy drinking beer, even with the lack of balance. Tasty stuff. Additionally, is this beer seriously 5%? It feels like it could easily be about 7%. I find it incredible that this beer's ABV is what it is.
