12 oz. bottle.

Pretty damn clear golden apricot body. Finger of tight, gauzy, eggshell-white head. Some lacing. Ridiculously citrusy nose! Definite guava too. Grapefruit and grapefruit rind, mandarin orange, and passion fruit as well. Sugary malt presence in the background.

Toasted malts up front. Big citrus juice flavor follows. Grapefruit, guava, and lemon dominate. Acidic, bitter, and even a bit tart. Spicy, cookie-ish malt underneath it all. Grassy, herbal bitterness mixes in near the finish. Candied malt sweetness resonates with bitter citrus hops in the finish. Medium-bodied, with a slightly slick feel. A very citrus-y IPA, and if you like that kind of thing, seek this out!

Sever in a pint glass at The Rattlesnake in Boston.

Appearance: A one finger head reduced head to a thin layer. It is a hazy pale orange with some vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Nice light notes of grapefruit, tangerine, and orange with some toasted bready notes and caramel sweetness.

Taste: Same as above with lingering bitterness in the rear. Really chewy and hops fizzle out quickly.

Mouthfeel: Chewy, lingering bitterness, medium bodied, and medium carbonation. Really chewy.

Overall: Not too shabby, but I dig the Humalupalicious from these guys a bit more.

Bottled 5/27. Poured into a tulip glass.

It is very cloudy, and a deep, glowing orange color. It has an egg shell white foam that disappears entirely, but leaves some lacing on the way down.

The first thing that jumps out at me is it smells very musty/earthy. Very melon like. Also some pink lemonade, grapefruit, and some florally hops. Any malts/grains are hidden.

That musty flavor is there front and center. Kind of rye like. Musk melon, red grapefruit, lemon, a touch of orange, and a Kool Aid mix sort of sugar sweetness. Finishes with some flower petal tasting hops with a significant bitterness that borders on aspirin and a piney and slightly grainy aftertaste. The first hint of any malts.

Medium bodied. Nice balance. A bit airy/fluffy. Easy to drink.

The advertised guava seems to really shine in this beer. Sweet and rustic flavor at the same time. Excellent ipa

Served on draught at Ashley's, Westland, MI., in a pint glass.

A- pours a clear light copper hue, not much head or lacing, with a thin layer of residual bubbles on top.

S- big guava attack, with a strong swell of high grade sour marijuana odor, followed by a grainy malt note, then a crisp, strong hoppy finish. A bit more grainy/malty smelling than a bottle offering, but a huge green, earthy, fruity nose. This smells awesome. I could hang out with my nose in the glass for a while.

T- I love this beer. I was a big fan in 2010 with the initial release, and with this, I am truly excited that they have released it again. Strong guava bite with a big tropical fruit palate- think mango, passion fruit, Hawaiian papaya, sharp pineapple notes. Full, but not too strong hop notes- not too dry, but still prevalent, followed by a mellow, malty grain finish. Extremely well balanced- not too much fruit to put against the grain, very tasty.

M- very smooth with appropriate modest carbonation. Nothing overpowering, a great brew.

O- a great beer. I am not big on beers with a fruit ingredient, but this is truly unique, especially for a Midwest brew. The guava works well with the hop character without being overpowering. A true dark horse among American IPA's. One of the best. Very drinkable. Seasonally appropriate, though I think I could drink this all year. I hope Short's eventually makes this a routine seasonal. I am truly thankful they brought this back.

$2.30 for a 12oz single @ Jacks. No ingredients listed on the website. A collaboration with Half Acre Beer Co in Chicago.

Pours out to a clear light amber forming a modest white head with average retention and sparse lacing. Mild carbonation. The aroma is sweet with spicy resinous hops with a touch of that skunky Amarillo and the mango of Centennial. Very nice. Sits on top of a sweet malt nose. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth with a medium body. The taste is very very good. I get the skunky MJ of Amarillo with a nice flash of white pepper (since they are going for the Ween thing here), and a touch of some acidic fruit...I dunno if it's Guava or not, but it lightens the body and adds a peculiar fruity sourness. The bitterness is a little sharp, above medium. The finish is dry. Aftertaste of grapefruit pith.

This is a decent IPA with some peculiar qualities. I might buy it again in a pinch.

Thanks Boilermakerryan for this one!

A - Pours a bright orange, somewhat hazy but very vibrant in color. Decent near white/light tan half finger head, retention is so so, lacing is fantastic!

S - Smells fantastic, pine and a pretty hefty caramel malt aroma. Mild grainy aromas.

T - Lots of APA fruity flavors - apples/pears, mildly bitter pine flavor, slightly peppery and grainy with a fantastic sweetness at the finish. Not very bold, a little too weak imo - bottled about 2 months ago so perhaps past its prime.

M - Light bodied, super refreshing, appropriate/slightly light carbonation.

O - Pretty decent, very refreshing, just not very bitter/hoppy

A- Pours a slightly hazy golden amber color with a fairly thin white head. Head has good retention, forms a layer of bubbles on the top and leaves some spotty lacing.

S- The aroma of this beer is like no other IPA. Tons of tropical fruits, a bit of pine and caramel malts too. The guava is pretty crazy smelling and outstanding.

T- Again this is completly different than most IPAs. Tropical fruits are no joke and up in your face. A bit of pine and a good malt back bone. There also seems to be some sort of spice here too that I can't make out. Very good and different at the same time.

M- Medium in body and carbonation.

D- This is a very interesting brew and incredibly easy to drink.

12oz bottle.

Pours clear copper with a half inch head of bone. A fine beam rims the glass with a few dots of lacing throughout.

Aromatics are filled with tropical, exotic fruits and hop resins. Grapefruit, guava, mango, and pine.

Medium bodied with a slickish mouthfeel.

Lush, ripe, tropical fruit with piney hops running under start the palate. A mild bitterness and malt to balance follow through.

Finishes with lingering but slightly strange fruit.

A very fruity beer but a bit odd.

A: brilliant gold/orange clear color, thick foamy white head, splotchy foamy lacing

S: nice fruity bouquet with lots of tropical guava, peaches, and citra hops. It's difficult to distinguish between the hops and the fruit because they marry quite well. Very nice aroma.

T: bright fruity flavors up front: guava, peach, orange, and grapefruit. Some bready malts come into play mid palate, and some ho bitterness on the finish. Very nice balance. Wish I had gotten a chance to try the Half Acre version.

MF: medium body, spritzy carbonation, refreshing

D: this beer has remarkable drinkability, nice and crisp, good fruity notes, balance well with the bitterness.

12oz bottle from Plum Market. Bottled 11/24/10.

Pours a hazy, deep golden color with a two-finger white head. Head retention and lacing are moderate to good. The aroma of guava jumps out of the glass along with other tropical fruit and citrus smells. There is also a considerable biscuit malt aroma. Moderately sweet guava and tropical fruit flavors up front with a strong grainy, biscuity malt flavor cutting the sweeter hops on the midpalate. The finish is quite bitter and dry with lots of lingering tropical fruit/guava and lighter biscuit malt notes. Alcohol is pretty well-hidden. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation and a dry finish. The intensely bitter finish limits drinkability somewhat, as does the interesting, but not very complex, flavors. Overall, a really good IPA from Short's and Half Acre. The guava really comes through, and the flavors, while not complex, are pleasant and refreshing.

12oz bottle from GRDave (thanks man!). No bottling date. Served in a Terrapin snifter.

Pours hazy amber with a full finger white head that fades fairly quickly and leaves a nice bit of lace.

Smells of tropical fruity hops. Orange, guava, papaya and candy.

Taste bursts with juicy guava followed by grapefruit, peel, a little sugar and cracker. The guava dominates.

Slick light medium body with moderate carbonation. Dry grapefruit finish.

Shorts was not kidding about the guava. It's a very unique and juicy IPA.
