Notes from 2/4/11. I was told by the bartender that this was created from a trip that he had to Short's a while back. They had him combine different Short's beers to come up with a custom creation for the Green Well in GR. They brewed a limited # of barrels and will likely not be brewed again. I believe he said that the combination was Bellaire Brown, Hanging Frank, and something else...

Pours a brownish red with a cream head. There is some lacing that sustains a good while.

Dark malts, brown sugar, candy, banana and lemon are in the scent.

The taste is strangely sour. I'm not sure if this is a result of it being contaminated or old, but it is a bit funky like it has a Bret yeast. There is a decent amount of a drying hop finish with some flavors of lemon, cherry, and some roasted malts.

The mouthfeel is medium with a good deal of carbonation.

The drinkability is good with a nice hop flavor. I would have this again.

On-tap poured into a pint glass.

A- It came to the table with just a touch of foam in the middle of the surface. However, a little swirl produced a thin, foamy head. The body was a murky brown.

S- It's kind of hard to describe. There was a really sweet quality that's difficult to place. I've noticed it in other browns, but can't come up with a really good descriptor. Maybe something of caramel and a candied nutty aroma? Quite pleasant all the same.

T- Much as the aroma suggests. There's that sweet quality that's hard to place. On the menu it suggests that this beer is a "hoppy" brown ale. I didn't get a big burst of hops, but enough earthy tones to mellow the sweeter qualities.

M- Moderate carbonation and finish. Sweetness doesn't linger, but not bone dry either. Pretty basic and within the style.

D- It's a good drinker. I had it before and with my New Year's dinner at the Green Well (who had this beer brewed especially for the restaurant). If not for the limited availability, it would be something I'd come back to. Easy to put back and a good compliment with food.
