Reviewed from notes.

Pours a medium caramel-brown color with a thin off-white head and a bit of lacing. The nose carries in some roast, chocolate, and toasted coconut. A bit of a nutty character. The flavor is along the same lines, though there’s something a bit off about it, perhaps tracing to the coconut. Chocolate makes a good appearance along with a moderate malty sweetness. Medium body and fairly sweet. Slight dryness in the finish. Really interesting brew.

Had at Sunset Grill and Tap 3/10
Served in a snifter.

A: This beer pours a deep, dark caramel color. Not an inkling of head or film on this. Additionally, no lacing to speak of.

S: Nose is a ton of almond, vanilla and anise.

T: Taste starts nice and almondy, lots of nuttiness with a hint of vanilla. Flavor moves in to a mild toffee malt character and anise. A touch of brown sugar is present. Finish is a mixture of milk and dark chocolate, a nice coconut backbone and a good deal of alcohol.

M: Medium body, lower carbonation, slight oily presence to the body.

D: Goes down ok, somewhat tasty, kick is not well hidden, somewhat filling, and another interesting twist on the style. I was really looking forward to this beer, but the alcohol flavoring dampened some of the really interesting flavors. I'd like to try this again when maybe some of the heat dissipates.

on tap at sunset tap and grille in boston during the post-EBF brunch

Pours a deep hazed caramel color with some softer golden orange hues. A layer of white head retains for a bit before leaving streaks of lacing on the glass.

Strong, rich scents of burnt brown sugar, caramel, coconut, nuttiness, and light hoppiness with a bit of alcohol heat.

Syrupy sweetness up front, notes of chocolate and caramel swirl together, topped off with a smack of coconut. Almonds and brown sugar, with a thick, doughy caramel malted backbone. Rich and sweet with some alcohol towards the finish.

Fuller body, lower carbonation, sticky, syrupy, and rich on the tongue. Definitely a really tasty beer, especially since I enjoy coconut. It was a bit sweet and rich overall, as I was pretty satisfied with a small pour.
