Poured into a goblet:

L: jet black like cold coffee or a delicious stout. However something about it is missing when compared to other black IPA's.
A: malt and barley...not quite as expected as I was hoping for hoppy piney cofee citrus aroma

F: heavy, slow sipper, boozy, yet on tongue boozy flavor thins which allows for enjoyment.

T: scotch ale, malt, barley

O: good but rating is low for I expected hoppiness being it's labeled as a DIPA. It also is described as having a barely wine taste when it tastes more like a scotch ale. It's almost like the brewers @ Shorts had no idea what they brewed so it is sort've a DIPA barley wine without strong noticeable hop presence. However being it is resembled as a barley wine maybe some age will do it good. It's almost like a DIPA gone wrong creating a resemblance of a barley wine. As with all barley wines perhaps with some age I'll like it better.

1/ 27/15 on neck of bottle

A- pours pitch black with a nice tan head. leaves a decent amount of lacing from a hardy pour.

S- dark malts with some alcohol.

T- not to far from the smell. alil bitter. very slight floral/ citrusy hop action trying to make a appearance but dominated by the roasted/ chocolate malt. also detect the slightest bit of coffee flavor from the malt.

M- medium/ heavy bodied. good carbonation.

DRINKABILITY- as i'm on number four of the sixer it's not terrible. won't buy again tho. too many hoppy brews out there.

Overall- I was honestly expecting more hop action coming from this brew. it's bitter and has a slightly floral/citrusy hop presence but it's pounded by the malt. this beer reminds me of I think it's anger by greenbush brewery and nighttime by lagunitas. it's playyyyyed! maybe it's the style TO ME but all these black ipa's seem the same. drinkable but nothing special. if you're looking for more of a dark malt driven showcase with some slight hop action this is a beer for you. I just prefer hop explosion.

A: Pours pitch black with mocha head heavy lacing at the edges and a good dusting on top.

S: Aroma of citrus and ash. Some orange rind and pine. Pure bitterness with dark deep roasted malt scents.

T: Bitter orange peel, deep woods pine and charcoal. Deep bitter black patent malt battle with citrus hops. Goodnight bodacious has a Bitter finish that was hard won by the hops. Flavorful is an understatement and this is tasty but definitely would be tough to have more than one of these for me. Ideally I would have had half a bottle and I like DIPAs. Lots of licorice / anice flavor in here as well.

M: Medium to thick body for a ABA, medium carbonation.

O: Overall this is a tasty American black ale. It is too much for me right now however. Maybe its spring however I am just not a fan of this right now. As fate would have it, I dumped 3/4 of this beer on my rug. Oops. Maybe it was predetermined as I wasnt particularly interested....

Dark Ale with distinct hop aroma, getting the Apollo scent but I'm not quite sure. Hops and coffee on the nose. Mouth feel is wet, malty and delicious. Great lacing, let it sit as it just gets better. i get black patent malts heavy with no smoke but a coffee grind palette and a slight sweet maltiness. IBU's are there but not a dominant hop finish but very crisp, fast finish. FINAL WORD: Shorts did it again, this beer is very good for the style, very nice for its style. I'd buy it again. cheers
