Tulip glass.

Pours a deep, dull black with a thin film of attractive sand-colored head. Good retention and some dots of lace. Smell is ginger, rich dark molasses, a little cinnamon and toast. Taste is nice gingerbread and dark molasses again, a little cinnamon, a mild but perfect level of sweetness to support the flavors. Mouthfeel is very smooth, lightish carbonation and medium, round body. Overall, they really nailed a gingerbread stout, highly drinkable and good balance in the flavor.

this beer reminds me of something that dogfish head would put out... it seems that shorts is really maturing and has grown more and more bold and is deserving respect that earlier I was not expecting.... this brewery in my book should take a place along side the best of the nation (avery, dogfish head et al)

This pours a cola caramel with a thick creamy head.

The aroma is like a strong Christmas tree, with a herbaceous piney blend of goodness coming across.

The flavor is sharply bitter without being hoppy.

There’s a blend of Christmas spices, herbal and medicinal.

I like that flavor profile and the combination. Works for me.

Enjoyable beer. I thought the ginger worked with the standard brown ale flavor

Served in a pint glass.

A: Pours a dark brownish-black color, not entirely opaque, and has a short tan head that evaporates quickly but leavers a small tan ring and small amounts of lacing.

S: Smells good. Cinnamon, cardamom, brown sugars, ginger, malts, barley

T: Fairly sweet, somewhat woody, has your basic black lager flavors to it, barley and malts, not picking up too much on the ginger although I can pick up on the cinnamon. Little warmth from the alcohol.

M: Medium bodied beer with medium amounts of carbonation, smooth, rich

O: Overall this was fairly good.
