dark brown color with a nice beige head. smell has a ton of whiskey, a bit sweet too. taste is very sweet with a lot of vanilla and whiskey. caramel, raisin...dominated by whiskey...meh. mouthfeel is a bit thin but not too bad... overall its decent but you wont want more than 4 oz or so. not the best.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Almost black. Transparent. Nice khaki head. Wispy.

Smell - Lots of whiskey. Not a very rich whiskey aroma. A little bit of roast but not much.

Taste - Again it's dominate by a whiskey flavor. Sharp and bright whiskey. A little roasty and some caramel.

Mouthfeel - Thin. Boozy. Medium carbonation.

Overall - Eh. Dominated by an uninteresting whiskey flavor.

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours a very dark brown, appearing black in the glass with a fine two finger light brown head with great retention and pillowy lacing. Aroma dominated by whisky with a pleasant background of dark toasted malt, chocolate and light vanilla. Flavor is light toasted malt, whiskey, chocolate and vanilla, with some light apple and pear juice elements. Thin finish as if the malt has given up the fight. Surprisingly light body, but good carbonation. Plenty of good flavor here, but the malt body is light for a porter and is somewhat overwhelmed by the lighter juice and whiskey components. A thicker, maltier body would deliver and balance the overall pleasant flavors a bit better. This is similar to my review of the bourbon barrel variant a few years ago. Happy to drink this, but probably a one and done in favor of a heavier bodied porter.

A: Pours a deep brown color with a one finger tan head. Leaves some slight tracks of lace.

S: Pretty big whiskey notes right away with some chalky cocoa, tootsie roll, lots of vanilla and some cola nut. Hints of raisin as well.

T: Taste opens pretty big with whiskey soaked raisin, dark chocolate covered cherry, vanilla and chocolate syrup. The finish brings some faint roasted malt and charred wood and fades really quickly. Mouthfeel is a bit light, but the sweetness makes it feel a bit heavier. Pretty good stuff.

Found this on tap at the brewery and after consuming a glass, picked up a growler for home.

Pours a coloa colored ale with a big beige head that reduces to a float topper for the remainder of the session.

The smell is very green apple up front so I assume this may have been from an apple whiskey barrel. Nice chocolate, honey and soothing vanilla abounds as well. Still getting a lot of tart apple which is interesting.

The taste is chocolatey with a swirl of vanilla and oak on the swallow. Slightly boozy but not overly which allows for a touch of heat on the way down. As it warms, the chocolate and oak are enhanced. A tad more vanilla on the aftertaste with a dry finish.

Overall I was pleased by this offering. The whiskey was a nice twist but it was a tad too fruity for me. Whiffing the apple presence each sip got a bit of sensory overload on this nose. Definitely a nice venture from this local brewery that is branching into exciting things.

Edit: This may be from a Jack Daniels barrel.
