Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our single hop wheat IPA, brewed with all Citra hops. Lighter in color and lower in a.b.v. than a typical American IPA, this beer has just the right amount of hop flavor and aroma. Completely satisfyingly awesome in its crispiness and well-rounded hopaliciousness. This beer might just be your Rushmore.

Comes in a hazy, translucent orange color with a big, pillowy white head. Near perfect retention, with sheets of lacing left behind.
The aroma is sweet overripe candied orange, orange marmalade, sweet bready malt, hints of mango and pineapple, floral.
Sweet overripe orange upfront, with orange jam and orange candy throughout; the malt is big and bready, fairly sweet, lightly toasty; resinous and sticky on the finish, with a weird spice note like cinnamon or gingerbread, and slightly grassy and piney.
The mouthfeel is medium and slick, fairly well carbonated, oily and resinous with lingering hop oils.

I picked this one up at a Vermont Country, at an early stop along rt 91N, on a beercation into VT. I didn't know much about it, except that I had heard of the brewer. And...I'm glad I grabbed it.
After some research, I learned that Conehead was comprised of a wheat base and a single (Citra) hop...And, as best I could tell, it was an early Citra ale (basically, the year Citra became commercially available).
So, it's no surprise that this old school brew pours only slightly hazy. And, I can only imagine that this is/was available in bottles...although, I purchased cans.
Anyways, in a modern world ripe with IPA varieties, such a pioneer should be enjoyed occasionally. This one still stands up, tall.

Tap at the source.
Slightly hazy light golden with a decent bubbly white head. Lightly spiced bready maltiness with plenty of earthy fruity tropical aroma and flavor. Really nice easy to drink IPA.

A delicious piney rapture. Drinks real easy, and I find myself craving another batch. Scarce commodity in these parts. Shows up from time to time, but flies off the shelf.

Picked-up a six pack at Wegmans in Westwood for about twelve dollars. I have never tried or heard of this brew before. It was alright, nothing special, would not buy again.

It's hard to compete with hoppy beers in VT so i rated this a bit lower due to the non NE style juice bombs. However this wasn't a bad beer!

Cloudy orange-gold color. Moderate head which leaves multiple rings of lace on the glass with each sip.

Fresh and traditional (i.e. No grapefruit nor flowers) smell of recently ground hops.

The flavor is a bit sweet initially. The bittering hop takes over rapidly but with balance. Good mouthfeel -- leans rich and bubbly. After so many near extreme New England IPAs, this is a trip back to the original American IPA.
