Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Our single hop wheat IPA, brewed with all Citra hops. Lighter in color and lower in a.b.v. than a typical American IPA, this beer has just the right amount of hop flavor and aroma. Completely satisfyingly awesome in its crispiness and well-rounded hopaliciousness. This beer might just be your Rushmore.

Look - thick hazy tannish golden color with a slight head and lacing
Smell - citrus but very faint
Taste - citrus like the scent and not that bitter
Feel - medium body with a light crispness
Overall - pretty good light ne ipa

I picked this one up at a Vermont Country, at an early stop along rt 91N, on a beercation into VT. I didn't know much about it, except that I had heard of the brewer. And...I'm glad I grabbed it.
After some research, I learned that Conehead was comprised of a wheat base and a single (Citra) hop...And, as best I could tell, it was an early Citra ale (basically, the year Citra became commercially available).
So, it's no surprise that this old school brew pours only slightly hazy. And, I can only imagine that this is/was available in bottles...although, I purchased cans.
Anyways, in a modern world ripe with IPA varieties, such a pioneer should be enjoyed occasionally. This one still stands up, tall.

Tap at the source.
Slightly hazy light golden with a decent bubbly white head. Lightly spiced bready maltiness with plenty of earthy fruity tropical aroma and flavor. Really nice easy to drink IPA.

A delicious piney rapture. Drinks real easy, and I find myself craving another batch. Scarce commodity in these parts. Shows up from time to time, but flies off the shelf.

Picked-up a six pack at Wegmans in Westwood for about twelve dollars. I have never tried or heard of this brew before. It was alright, nothing special, would not buy again.

It's hard to compete with hoppy beers in VT so i rated this a bit lower due to the non NE style juice bombs. However this wasn't a bad beer!

Cloudy orange-gold color. Moderate head which leaves multiple rings of lace on the glass with each sip.

Fresh and traditional (i.e. No grapefruit nor flowers) smell of recently ground hops.

The flavor is a bit sweet initially. The bittering hop takes over rapidly but with balance. Good mouthfeel -- leans rich and bubbly. After so many near extreme New England IPAs, this is a trip back to the original American IPA.

A: Pours a hazy golden amber in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate golden yellow + burnt orange colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall foamy off-white head that reduces to a couple of small patches of thin film surrounded by a large patch of very thin film covering the majority of the remainder of the surface and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit, tropical/guava, and light pine hops over the top of light aromas of biscuit, wheat, and caramel malts.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of biscuit, wheat, and caramel malts with a light hint of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit, citrus/orange, tropical/guava, and light pine hops which impart a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp initially with a hint of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink and super refreshing - I like the wheat IPA which is not a Belgian IPA... Alcohol is well hidden and I could easily have a couple of these, especially on a warm summer evening.

On a trip to VT came across this beer on tap in a restaurant. Seems a little subdued on the aroma and color for similar styled beer but the taste was fantastic. The lightness make this a beer I could drink for a while on a hot day.
