First had: on tap at American Flatbread, Burlington, VT

Typical fare here. Dark brown pour, semi-opaque, with a small, dense off-white head. Aroma was fairly roasty, dark malts, some sweetness, hints of coffee. The taste followed the aroma with dark roasty malts, coffee and dark chocolate notes, bready, and not too sweet, with a subtle earthy hoppiness. Medium body, solid and drinkable, nothing you haven't had before, but quite good overall.

Pours black withj a small tan head that sticks around. Nice aroma of roasted malts. Flavor is solid porter, stays on the sweeter side with some coffee but there is some roasted malt at the end. Feels light and easy to drink and overall a pleasant beer.

The appearance was a black color with a bar pour’s kind of slim white head. Barely any lacing, but I’m okay with that. The smell started off with a big roasty coffee to sweet cocoa. Light black licorice enters in after a bit of warming. The taste was moderately sweet with an ample amount of roastiness blending to balance nicely. A mostly sweet and subtly roasty aftertaste runs into the finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium in body with a decent sessionability about it. Carbonation hits just right for the style and for me. Nice smoothness allowing the roastiness to just prickle a bit but not go overboard. Overall, I’d say its a nice American Porter.

Served in a pint glass at the brewpub.

Pours a black color with light red when held up to the light with a 1+ finger tan head of little bubbles, good retention and spotty lacing. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate and nuts. Up front flavor of hazelnut and coffee with some light chocolate and subtle smoke with a light lemon hop at the finish. Medium carbonation, full body, this is a mouth coating beer. The nutty flavor in this porter really makes this beer. Great selection as the weather gets colder and colder.

sampled on tap at the brewpub may 31/2010. menu listed it at 5.3% ABV.

pours deep dark brown with good clarity. not quite opaque and showing some deep red highlights at the bottom. the small dense tan head drops fairly fast and leaves lots of lace as it falls.

aroma is nice. dark and milk chocolate. coffee. earthy and woody. nice herbal character. hint of alcohol. multi-grain bread. bit of biscuit. a bit fruity too, leaning clearly toward a dry english style porter.

taste is good. coffee. dark toasted whole wheat bread. bit of biscuit. light alcohol. bit of dark and milk chocolate. a bit fruity again. nice earthy and slightly herbal character. medium-low bitterness level.

mouthfeel is great. medium body. medium carbonation level.

drinkability is good. balanced and tasty. this is one i could easily drink all evening.

A decent porter if not a little light. Had a four ounce poor at the brewery. This has all of the characteristics of a porter and is even a little above average.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a clear very dark red/crimson, a bit of black around the edges, medium sized tan head forms and settles down to a thin layer and ring, drops some lace chunks on the glass on its way down.

Smell is good, oats, lightly roasty, some chocolate, very biscuity and malty, a touch of fruity sweetness, caramel, wafery, pretty neat.

Taste is similar, very dry and roasty, sweet and nutty, light chocolate, caramel, light fruit, biscuit, very dry and roasty finish, a bit of oats.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation, a pretty solid porter.

Pours a near black with a nice tan head and lacing that persists. Aroma is sweet; roasted malts, caramel and chocolate. Taste is also roasted malt like but light. Similarly the body is light for a porter rendering it very drinkable. The mouthfeel was perhaps slightly rough at times and not as creamy and smooth as I would have liked it. Despite this I enjoyed this one.
