Style: Milk / Sweet Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.70%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout is a traditional full-bodied stout brewed with lactose (milk sugar). Because lactose is unfermentable by brewer's yeast, it remains in the beer. The subtle sweetness and fullness of flavor imparted by this sugar balances the sharpness of the highly roasted grains that give this delicious beer its black color. All year long, Milk Stout is our number one selling beer!

Poured out of a 12 oz bottle into a standard tumbler pint glass. Poured with medium vigor to create a half-finger head.

Appearance - dark brown bordering on black with hues of deep walnut wood and subtle hint of red when held up directly to the light. Chocolate mousse-colored head that dissipates within about 30-60 seconds and leaves fair lacing.

Aroma - heavy scent of cocoa nibs, bittersweet chocolate and shadow of nuttiness.

Taste - Starts sweet to semisweet and develops into roasted chocolate. Some hints of dark bread and malt. Promising to begin with, but then the taste just fades away, leaving nothing. Aftertaste is almost imperceptible.

Mouthfeel - suffers from the quickly dissipating taste and leaves no real desire to take the next drink. Finished the beer out of desire not to waste it because it wasn't bad enough for a drain pour.

Overall, I would not buy this again, but I will certainly drink the other two bottles of it that came as part of the beer of the month collection.

12oz bottle poured into a Sprecher snifter glass.

Appearance- Jet black with about a half finger of white head that quickly dissipates. No real lacing to speak of.

Smell- Lots of roasty notes with lots of chocolate.

Taste- The front of the tounge is hit with a chocolate bitterness. A smooth roastyness hits the middle with more of a bitter chocolate finish.

Mouthfeel- A bit on the watery side for a stout but with the smaller abv that is to be expected. Very drinkable though.

Overall- A very tasty east drinking stout that has a black coffee like bitterness. My only surprise is that it being a Milk Stout that it wasn't a tad sweeter.
