Style: Scotch Ale / Wee Heavy

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.00%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit’s Scotch Ale is a full-bodied, deep copper-colored treasure. Bold and malty, this beer’s sweetness comes from a massive quantity of grain complemented by some serious kettle carmelization. The flavor is rounded out by a warming alcohol sensation.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with amber hues and a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of bready malts, dark fruits. Taste is bready malts, brown sugar, dark fruits, alcohol is present. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Bottle to glass. Aroma is brandy, wine, wood, barley, broth, bergamot. Look is clear mahogany reddish brown. No head. Taste is yeast, brandy, bergamot. Feel is Somewhat flat. Interesting flavors again for Duck Rabbit, but not a home run."

Weird looking brew but one hell of a beer...

Let me just start off by saying that I am a fan of DR, though they may not be my favorite brewer, I have enjoyed the few offerings I have had over the last few years. So when I picked this up I figured it would be at the very least solid. Well, the moment I poured it out, found it had no head, no lacing, and to top it off it had this weird orange-colored tinge to it, I was immediately feeling this was not going to end well. Then I took a sniff, then I took a sip, and it was then I realized I was clutching something incredibly special.

The scent was this unexpected blend of caramel and booze that was sweet to the nose, the mouthfeel was smooth, creamy, with just enough carbonation to let you know it was there. Then there was the taste - as heavenly as it gets for me, divine in both flavor, complexity, and just overall kick-ass. Though the look of the beer was a huge let down, the rest of the experience left me wishing I had another 5 or 11 of these on hand. I will definitely be on the look out for this wee-scotch ale...

LOOK: Pours a deep copper / brown color. Only a 1-2 finger head from the 12 oz. bottle. Head receded very quickly, but I was left with a very small foam ring and a few patches of lace. Underwhelmed with the level of carbonation.

SMELL: Some malty notes and some yeast. Smells more like a German beer like a Marzen / Festbier.

TASTE: A bit of a bite at first - some hop bitterness. There is a nice blast of malt and sweetness directly after the bite. Still tastes like a German beer to me (Festbier, Oktoberfest, or almost a Doppelbock). Very caramelly and rich though. Dries out towards the end. Nice bready notes towards the end as well.

FEEL: Medium bodied but on the fuller side. Rich and oily. Expected a bit fuller though.

OVERALL: Great flavor. Rich and malty. Would buy again for sure. It just didn't strike me as much as a Scottish ale as it did a German one. But very good.

Very tasty!
Looks like a classic Irish red in color, minimal head
Smells of toffee and stone fruit and booze
Tastes multi-layered with stone fruit and raisin, brown sugar and brandy
Mouthfeel is warming and lightly effervescent (which was a surprise)
Bought six from Tavour; hope I can find more somewhere.

This beer is nice, but it looks and smells more tantalizing than it tastes or sits in your mouth. It's got an interesting finish, one that sours, in a sense, but it's good. It's funky.

Loved this beer! Ordered 2 from Tavour but regret not buying more when I had the chance.

L- Irish red with a finger tip of head. Looked great for a Scotch Ale.

S- Very bread smelling from what I remember. Drank this a week ago so memory is a little fuzzy. Also had a bit of Scotch hint to it too.

T-Wow. Was this smoooooth. Like silky smooth. Couldn't taste the alcohol at all. Hidden super well. Could've just drank it all night honestly. Goes down fast.

F- Silk. Pure silk on the pallet and full feeling to me. Loved swishing it in the mouth a bit before swallowing. Very bready too.

O- Solid Scotch Ale. I'd buy more in a heart beat when I find it again. Duck-Rabbit is now on my radar.
