Notes:
The Duck-Rabbit Märzen is the lightest of our German-style lagers. This is a beer designed for outdoor autumn festivals! Soft malt flavors take center stage here. This one is subtle and beguiling.

Poured into a stein. Clear, medium to dark amber with slightly off-white head. Head dissipates after a few moments. Looks as though it falls within style guidelines.
Soft malty smell.
This tastes very good. Bready malts and smooth, sweet flavors. Slightly slick and a bit chewy. Hops are soft and subtle, as they should be. Body is medium with a notch toward the full side; pretty substantial for style. Finishes crisp despite the malt-forward presentation.
Very good interpretation of the style.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear deep copperish-brown with a thin soapy head. No head retention at all and also no lacing. Pretty disappointing.
Aroma is an interesting mixture of caramel, vegetables, and metal. Some apple notes too.
The flavor is a little better but still an odd mixture of what seem to be off-flavors. Caramel and fruit are more pronounced with apples figuring in even more prominently. A touch of tartness with a bit of a chalky finish.
Overall, this beer just seems a bit "off". Not sure if it is a sanitation issue or a yeast issue but there are definitely off-flavors here. Really needs to be cleaned up.

Bought this product of North Carolina at a Wegmans in a mixed six on my recent late October Pennsylvania trip. Not available in my state as far as I know.
Fun label graphic of two-faced rabbit/duck head under a cap, apparently representing the unusual brewery name.
"Enjoy by date indicated" 11/14. Close.
a: Clear amber with a finger thick white head which receded to nada.
s: Caramel malt.
t: Nondescript bitterness up front over mild malt base. Later the caramel malt becomes more prominent but remains mild.
m: Light to moderate, ok body, light carbonation tingle.
o: Al all right Marzen, too strangely bitter at first and not as malty as I would prefer, but a decent oktoberfest-style brew good for Fall weather.

EBD 11/15. Clear amber pour. Normal head volume, lacing and retention.
Typical marzen nose of bready malt - caramel and biscuit. Underneath is a light fruity ester - apple or apricot.
Light medium body that is quite smooth in texture. Slightly below normal carbonation with a hint of effervescence in the middle and a noticeable amount in the finish.
The flavor profile is quite outstanding. It begins with a rich wave of malt - toasted biscuit and caramel. Sweetness is perfectly balanced and never becomes cloying. The middle has a very subtle bitterness and an equally subtle noble hop earthy flavor. As the finish approaches, the fruit notes are evident as it becomes more grainy with a subtle nut aspect. The finish is a slow fade of slightly sweet noble hop flavor.
