Style: American Black Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.30%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
The Duck-Rabbit Hoppy Bunny American Black Ale is both intensely hoppy and intensely black! Eight separate hop additions offer delicious bitterness and beguiling hop aroma/flavor. Heavily represented among these hops are Chinook, which provides deep pine and sticky citrus components, and a New Zealand hop called Motueka, from which we get bright fruit and spearmint notes.

12 oz.

Pours black with a nutty light brown head, about an inch, which dissipates slowly and retains a lacing.

Slightly smokey and very piney hop bitter aroma.

Pine and grapefruit hop bitterness right off the bat. A toasty caramel malt flavor is subsidiary.

Medium to full body with light tingles of carbonation on the tongue.

Pretty enjoyable and flavorful beer, but if you're not a fan of hops, you're going to have a bad time. This is overwhelmingly hoppy, approaching American BW or Imperial IPA levels and, in some examples, passing it. Still, as hoppy beers have grown on me, I'd have this again.

Great to see a new DR offering.Poured jet black with a thick creamy beige head that left multiple broken rings of lace as it settled into a frothy mass.Sharp piney, earthy hops mixed with bitter chocolate and roast in the nose.Light smoke, earth, and roast at the onset with lightly sweet chocolate melding into a rush of prickly, piney hops that linger nicely.A damn fine ABA easily one of the better ones I have had, well done Duck Rabbit.

12 ounce bottle, "enjoy by date" notched onto the side of the label.

Pours darkest of browns, dark tan head, tiny bubble and with a quality look to it. Leaves fine webs, sheets and spots of lacing on the glass.

Muddled nose with dark grains and dark coffee picked up.

Full bodied and full of dark flavors. Dark grains, dark chocolate, dark coffee. Also notes of smoke, tar and burnt malts. Richly flavor full and quite dry and hoppy in the finish.

A lot going on here, dark and sludgy beer lovers go get some of this. For me its likely gonna be one and done

Served by a brewery rep. at the 2012 NC Brewers Fest.

A: pours near black with a lasting brown head. The head is creamy and coats the glass on the way down.

S: Hops plus dark malt. Some spice and pine.

T: An excellent and flavorful mix of hops and dark malt -- a generous and well-proportioned mix of both.

M: Creamy smooth' full body is more substantial than might be expected. Semi-dry finish.

O: excellent and highly drinkable.
