Bottle #262 of 1200.

Cracked open this one last night with a friend during our NYE shenanigans. Poured my allotment into mug.

Pours a dark chocolate brown with a thick beige head on top. Thick-looking froth made this one look like a milkshake. Big potent notes of chocolate and fudge grasp my attention. A little alcohol and vanilla noted as well. Nice aroma.

The body on this beer is a little disappointing. It doesn't hold up the "bigness" of the beer as I'd expect. Thin feel with moderate carbonation. Goes down much too slick. The flavors also aren't quite as bold as I'd like. Some chocolate noted, graham cracker, vanilla, and bit of alcohol on the finish. A good drink, but this falls short of great. A basic Brown that needs a little bit of work.

Bottle#668 of 1,200.Brewed to commemorate the the 30th anniversary of a local high end market that started here in Greensboro.Poured a deep roasted chesnut brown with a nice looking one finger beige head atop that lasted for quite awhile.Wow I love the mix of aromas, roasted nuts, caramel, chocolate, and big earthiness, just great complexity and balance.Flavors of caramel and cookie dough along with a hefty shot of sweet alcohol but there is a firm earthy dryness that is able to cut through alot of the sweetness.Holy smokes Natty Greene's hit a grand slam here!I gotta tell ya I thought this was gonna be a run of the mill brown al made for the wine snob crowd...wrong.The best beer I have had made by Natty Greene's hands down.Local BA's go get this, this really is great great stuff.

A: Very hazy dark brown body and light brown thin head. Spotty, shifty lace.

S: Raisins, black cherry, nuts, smokey woods, and lightly chocolatey.

T: Not bad. Flavors are pretty big. Dark purpley fruit, cocoa, nuts, and dusted with bitterness that lasts through the finish.

M: A little thin however there's still a somewhat texture. Prickly carbonation stirs it up.

O: Pretty good beer. Seems like it should have a higher abv, and I would like better if it were thicker.

No. 115 of 1,200

Pours a very dark brown, nearly black in color with a very slim, bubbly covering. Richly malty aroma: raisin bread, chocolate, creamy cherry, toffee, and light hazelnut. Some oxidation, which is surprising and the overall smell comes across brighter than expected. Flavor seems a little watery upfront, but that's more the fault of the insufficient body. Chocolate, fruitiness, vanilla, and toasted caramel with a noticeable and pleasant hop finish. Medium bodied and smooth, but not supportive enough for the big malty taste. Otherwise, this is a pretty fine "big" brown ale.
