L: Light amber, lots of bubbles, I am getting the impression it spent a bit of time conditioning.
S: Fresh hops right off the rip. Dank and pungent. Good enough for me, I am going to drink it now.
T: It's resiny. If you've ever bit into a fresh hop cone, you can taste a little of that. Plus caramelization. I am supposing the alpha oil content is through the roof. We're looking at a hop blend of Columbus, Chinook, and El Dorado, then dry hopped with Simcoe and Columbus.
F: It sits on the palate nicely. Would go nice with a smoke.
O: What I like about this is that there is alot of hop action yet a moderate amount of alcohol. It has infinity times more flavor than machine beers. The price is great and I hear that this is the owner's favorite beer.

Poured from the 12oz can into a cheater pint.
A: one finger of off white head. Not clear. Ruddy color. Nice bubbles flowing up. Head compacts to a tight 2mm disk.
S: mild earthy, herbaly hops. Slight grassiness. Very light taosty notes on nose. Balanced.
T: light herbalness, a bit of tightly sprung malt that uncoils slowly. They alternate then the herbal notes win. Little bit lemony as it warms.
M: slightly astringent herbal outbreath. Tea like. Medium body, then creamy then slightly dry ultimate finish.little bit chalky at edges of tongue on ultimate finish.
O: pretty good and it is a little different within this style.

My first offering from North Country - unique is an understatement...
From the can to the drink, Stinky Hippie is very different and unique. Touted as an ale but tasting like an IPA, this brew was something else from the get-go. Right out of the can you get a copper-ish colored liquid with particles floating in a Brownian dance, a little disconcerting. The smell was a deep IPA-like scent of very robust hops (as advertised) leading to a mouthfeel that was medium-bodied and light on the carbonation. The taste was to tinny for my liking, a deep hoppy taste reminding me of an IPA or even a DIPA, but I couldn't get past that metallic tang. Not a bad beer though, I'm sure there are folks out there that will gravitate and be all groovy over this beer.

12 oz can
Pours a mostly clear copper, white film for a head.
Aroma is of maple, bread malts, and piney and earthy hops.
Flavor is of bread and cereal malts, honey, and pine and herbal hops.
Medium body with tingly carbonation on the tongue.
Decent brew, good flavor and very drinkable. Stays closer to the earthy side on the hops which is nice, seems like everything is going citrus these days. Makes this stand out a bit.

North County Brewing "Stinky Hippie"
12 fl. oz. can with freshness dating but the inkjet is illegible
$2 @ Weis Market #231, Conshohocken, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: Nice label. I'm 99% sure I know that guy, although he claims he's not a hippie. Then he turns around and tells me that he borrowed a CD called "Flower Power" from his friend Dave. Riiiiight, NOT a hippie! Moving forward, it pours a slightly hazy deep copper colored body beneath a three-finger thick head of rocky light tan. The aroma expresses floral and pungent hops and caramelish malt. It's earthy, leafy, a little tea-like, gently piney, and has a mild fruit background. The flavor delivers the malt in a much fuller way whereas it's equally balanced with the hops in the aroma. That's not to say that the hops aren't there though. The two components blend well and there are some additional notes of fruit (red berries, apple, passionfruit), woodiness, nuts, herbs, and grass - plenty of grass in the dry, earthy, and herbal finish. It's not particularly bitter though, I'd guess around 35 IBUs. It's medium-light in body and smooth with a moderate carbonation despite the fact that the head rose up so easily at the pour - looking back I also see that it still has a thin but rocky solid surface covering and there's plenty of soapy lace all over the glass, so nice appearance in the end. Pretty nice beer as well. It's slightly unusual.

-speigelau ipa glass.
A: Dark, glassy reflective orange coloring shows a good clarity with a slow rise of spacious macro-bubbles. A light beige, foamy head is lumpy, much like a rootbeer float, enormous in size with soapy pockets along the perimeter. A really nice display of multiple stratified rings run down the vessel, thick and saturn like. The covering remains for most of the drink.
S: Dank, herbal and onion-grassy hops first present itself against some old, tart, lemon peel. Musky tones of earthy leaves and barnwood add to the whole stinky hippie, living in a barn type of appeal. The strength was on the lighter side of medium, short duration.
T: Dank and pungent flowery hops, dry and bitter, reminds me a bit of columbus. Dank lemon peel and citrus, with some flowery hops against a toasted malt backing. A bit of spicy flowery herbs, chives and thyme add some woodiness and herbal sense. Overall an nice deep toasted malt sense, grainy, and dry grassy hops round out.
M: Crisp carbonation, toasted malt dryness.
O: Overall a toasted bready malt backing with some stinky and sticky hops add a small insight to the smelly, stinky hippie. Could of been more pungent like, dry and bitter and mostly decent.

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 4/19/2017. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep orange/amber/light copper color with a 2 finger fairly dense and rocky cream colored head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper/pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, peach, pineapple, lemon/orange peel, pepper, pine, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from bitterness, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy/sticky, and slightly resinous balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is a great amber ale. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/earthy hops and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the balanced bitter/drying finish. Really impressive juicy, vibrant, and lightly dank hops; with a nice complex balancing malt backbone. Almost IPA level hoppiness, but still feels like a true amber ale. A very enjoyable offering.
