Poured into a narrow imperial pint glass: color is solid black head is tan with fine and small bubbles, head dissipates to a solid top, some lacing on the glass sides.
Smell is roast, cocoa, some coffee and light earthy hops, booze.
Taste is more roast, cocoa, coffee, earthy and light herbal hop notes, ethanol.
Mouthfeel is low carbonation, moderate/strong sweetness, moderate bitterness and drying from strength.
Overall a solid imperial stout - moderate aroma and flavors but seems a little thin but strong in sweetness/booziness.

Catherine the Great from North Country Brewing. Received on 16/3/21 from Franklin Beer, Franklin, PA. $4.00 (Including tax) per 16 oz can ($ 0.250/oz). In reefer at store, stored at home at 42 degrees. Reviewed 8/7/21. Note that I use DD/MM/YY protocol.
Bottom of can stamped “CANNED ON 01/??/??” (? = illegible number). Served at 55.9 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter. Final temperature 63.3 degrees.
Appearance – 3.
First pour – Amber Brown (SRM 18), clear.
Body – Black (SRM 40), opaque. When rear-lite, amber at the thinnest edge.
Head – Average (Maximum three cm, aggressive center pour), earth yellow, high density, average retention, diminishing to a three mm crown constantly being replenished by rapid carbonation and a rocky complete cap. Second pour produces a dense 0.4 cm head.
Lacing – Fair. A couple of buttes formed o near-microscopic bubbles.
Aroma – 3.5 – Begins with roasted malt with perhaps a hint of coffee, no hops, no yeast.
Flavor – 3.5 – Begins with moderately bitter roasted malt. No chocolate, no coffee, no hops, no yeast. No ethanol (9 % ABV, as marked on container) taste. Gastric burning does occur following the first swallow, but this quickly ameliorates to a dull glow. No dimethylsulfide or diacetyl.
Palate – 4 – Medium, creamy, soft carbonation.
Final impression and summation: 3.5 Fair imperial stout, basically just roasted malt flavor and aroma, fortified with ethanol. No distinct hoppiness and a bit thin on the tongue - primary function seems to be an alcohol delivery system. Price point is OK.

Head hangs out for a bit, but leaves exactly zero lacing if that's your jam. Body is motor oil black with almost no light shining through. Quite a feat at 7.6% ABV... er, my can reads 9.0%. I'm just going to assume that this beer has undergone some recipe transformations since it was added to the database in 2008. Anyway, smells roasty and a little bit leathery with some vanilla and a _lot_ of alcohol. That seems to be a note I'm picking up in most beers of late. Maybe it's just me? This is really strong, though. It's a note that transfers to the tongue, especially on the back end. Up front it's medium-roast coffee, mild milk chocolate and a little dark fruit. Mouthfeel is nice and soft, if a bit thin for a Russian Imperial Stout. This... is fine, I guess, just not really what I like from the style. It's also a little pricey for this middling level of quality. Going to be a hard pass from me from now on.

Quite a find that the gibsonia Giant eagle can't believe there hasn't been a review in a couple years. Into a pint glass.
A- spot on for the style deep dark blackness motor oil looking with a quarter inch of foam deep mocha that takes quite a minute to settle.
S- smells quite mild I do get a lot of mocha and coffee smells maybe some bittersweet chocolate and just a touch of herbal hops.
T- a very simple imperial Stout mildly roasty has some chocolate notes but mostly a very bitter herbal twang that leaves it all to a slightly sweet chalky finish.
M- a bit thinner than I expected for 9%. Guess I expected a bit more but it does make it more drinkable I just wish it had more sweetness or body
Overall not a bad imperial stout smooth light easy drinking but could use a bit more sweetness because it's very herbal and hoppy.

Had nitro at the brewery. So perfectly smooth. A perfect example of the style.

Pours black with a smallish, but persistent, dark tan head. Smell is roasted malt and some herbal hops. Nice big malty flavor. Roasted malt with some coffee notes. Balanced pretty well for an imperial stout with some base malt sweetness in the background and some crisp hops in the finish. Roasted malt bitterness throughout and some coffee notes. Very nice creamy full bodied moutfeel. Easily drinkable. Very good imp stout.
