12 oz bottle as part of the Harpoon 30th Anniversary pack, best before 1/17/2017.

Dark brown, virtually black with a creamy, tan head. Good amount of retention but no lacing on the glass. Opaque, but clear around the edges when held up to the light

Light chocolate and roasted malt in the nose with very mild fruitiness. Some coffee flavor comes out upon tasting. I can't taste the oats, but they add a silky feel to the beer. Medium-full bodied, creamy, and slightly bitter in the finish.

From a 22oz bomber "aged" at the beer store (guess no one was buying). This would have to be the 2006 edition although I couldn't find the date on the bottle, hard to believe it would be the 2003 version if 2006 only had 12oz 6-pack's.

Pours a dark brown, almost black color. Has a decent head but fades quickly although was able to leave some lacing.

Smells of roasted malt, coffee with hints of chocolate and oats.

Taste is predominately roasted malt with bitter chocolate. Although it's a stout, it wasn't as creamy as I figured it should be.

poured black, minimal head

smelled of roasted malts and sweet sugars

tasted nice and roasty, but not burnt at all. very slight finishing hops. chocolate background

very creamy and medium heaviness.

would make a very good session beer at only 5%. I wish i had more than one of these, this one was very nice!

12ox bottle poured into a Pint Glass

A – Poured a very dark and inky black with a towering three finger high head of thick tan colored foam and lace. Virtually at a standstill the foam just stood for a good few minutes before finally relenting and resting down to a thing one inch layer of brown across the top. Most impressive looking I have to admit. Lots of side glass lace was readily apparent as well.

S – The aroma was thick with chocolate, sugar, and coffee. Very full aroma it was quite the standout over dinner, and actually was stronger then Grandma’s pot roast, which says a lot. Great earthy tones and a touch of some grass in the back, very good.

T – The flavor was classic. This was a very nice blend of malts that produced a very full flavor stout that was very sweet and at the same time had a nice dry little bite to it as well. I thought the use of sugar was perfect, as the sweetness was not overbearing and allowed some of the more subtle flavors from the chocolate and coffee to push through. There was a nice earthy, oat like flavor in the finish. Much like your classic oatmeal porter, but this was much thicker and much drier, especially in the finish.

M – Very full and thick. This was a very rich, creamy stout that was also very filling. Nothing shy or watered down about this at all, in fact I was quite impressed as this was one of the fullest brews I have had coming from harpoon. Very nice indeed.

D – Superb for a nice stout. The ABV was low and the flavors were robust, but yet well rounded enough not to push themselves on you too fast. This made for something that did not need to be a sipper, and in fact was very nice during dinner, accentuating other flavors rather then being a burden on them.

Overall this was really a treat and to be honest thought it was quite wonderful. It had a great full bodied feel to it and very robust aroma and flavors that really made this a very fine winter session ale. I was quite impressed with the way it was crafted and with the depth of the profile. If this were a year round staple, I would be sure to always have some in the fridge.

A: Pours almost completely flat, only a thin tan film spreads across the surface of the brew. Appearance of the body is thin, with a dark chestnut hue to it.

S: Milk chocolate, lactose, toasted almonds, raisins and faint coffee

T: Begins watery with minor flavors of oat, caramel and weak chocolate. Caramel becomes a bit cloying across the center of the tongue right as a burst of buttery roasted barley takes shape. It comes on slow but definitely climaxes around the center of the tongue. Finishes with a coat across the palate with streaks of vanilla.

M: Medium body, soft mouthfeel.

D: Age has diminished a lot of the flavor, I think. Still not bad

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a very thin off-white head that fades very quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is creamy with roasted malts, oats, coffee, chocolate and some dark fruit.

T: The taste starts out with flavors of dark fruits and dark chocolate with toasted oats and coffee. It’s a little sweeter and fruitier than most beers of the style. There’s a mild hops presence, which is about right for an Oatmeal Stout. The after-taste is slightly sweet and a little smoky.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium-to-heavy body, light-to-medium carbonation, sticky finish.

D: Tasty, goes down easy, slightly filling, good representation of style, it’s a decent beer to stick with for a while, but if you’re going for a good Oatmeal Stout, this might not be your first choice. Overall, however, this is a good beer.

Pours a dark black into my Chimay Chalice; yields a 1/4 inch head that quickly disappears. Aromas are sharp and to the point, dark roasted with burned molasses and almost an alcohol presence.

Taste is more of the nose - sharp and roasted with a chocolate/cocoa presence that sticks to your cheeks and tongue...lingering...not much hops atall in the puppy.

A bit thin, for I think I like them a bit more bodiful, but smooth and flavorful I do think this one, yes.

Served slightly chilled in a pint glass. Poured a jet black that almost no light could pass through. About one good finger of thick, creamy, off-white head that quickly dissapeared into a thick blob in the center of the glass. Slight coffee and chocolate aromas with a little grainy hint to it. . Some bitter burnt coffee flavors along with some semi-sweet chocolate and sweet toasted malt. Not a bad brew. Mouthfeel is a little on the thin side. Drinkability is great.

Appearance: Pours very dark with a rocky tan and frothy head a very short head retention.

Aromas: Notes of mocha coffee and chocolate malts.

Taste: Coffee notes chocolate notes slight burnt hops notes rather full bodied.

Moutfeel: Is very smooth and a little heavy on the pallate but still tasty.

Notes: This tastes more like a chocolate stout or even a chocolate bock but still tasty. Cheers

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown color with a modest tan head whose big bubbles disappear rather quickly; very little lacing

Smell: Sweetened Cuban coffee

Taste: Starts out with a sweet coffee flavor; mellows out after the swallow with just a touch of toasted oats and almond bitterness at the end

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and very soft; low carbonation

Drinkability: This has some nice attributes but could be a lot better

Thanks, eclectic, for the opportunity

Pours black with a loose, bubbly, thin, light tan head. Leaves some spottly dotted lacing.
Little chocolate aroma with an acidic fruity hint... almost to the effect of some baltic porters. A little oat aroma as well.
A definate acidic roasty fruitiness. A bit of cocoa/chocolate, and a touch of bitterness.
Full bodied and low carbonation. Kind of watery plain...
Worth a try, but not anythin spectacular.
